Performance Network Theatre Seeks Submissions for The Umbrella Plays

By: May. 12, 2010

Performance Network Theatre with help from The New Theatre Project is currently seeking submissions for a new kind of theatre festival called The Umbrella Plays. On August 28, 2010 short plays from local artists will be featured in locations around Ann Arbor. The plays will be unified in only one element: each play must incorporate the prop of an umbrella.

Each play should not exceed fifteen minutes in length and can be submitted and produced by any local artist. Organizations are encouraged to submit work on behalf of their company. Each play will be seen by an expert panel of judges that will award the winner with a $400 prize. Attendees of the festival will also get the opportunity to vote for their favorite play to be awarded a $100 prize.

The Umbrella Plays seeks to promote the Southeastern Michigan theatre artist community, using the symbol of an umbrella to unify and connect us. The umbrella will serve as a beacon for the festival with the goal to flood the streets of Ann Arbor with them on August 28.

The Umbrella Plays serves as a fundraiser for the Performance Network with the objective to welcome new patrons wishing to participate in new kinds of theatrical endeavors.

Artists wishing to submit a play for The Umbrella Plays should visit the special events page on www.performancenetwork.org for application forms and details. Artists are welcome to submit multiple scripts for consideration. An application fee of $25 per submission is required.

The deadline for play submissions is June 11, 2010.
