Playhouse Square Features Jethro Tull's Anderson, 10/28

Ian Anderson, known worldwide as the flute and voice behind the legendary Jethro Tull, performs at PlayhouseSquare's Palace Theatre October 28th at 7:30 pm.
 
Celebrating 42 years of performing internationally, Tull has 30 studio and live albums to its credit, selling over 60 million copies since the band first performed at London's famous Marquee club.  They now typically play 100 concerts per year to longstanding and new fans. (Jethro Tull was originally formed in 1968, an amalgamation of the John Even Band and McGregor's Engine, two blues-based local UK groups.)
 
Ian's lifelong commitment to music doesn't see him hanging up his hat or his flute anytime soon, although he says his Tull signature tights and codpiece have long been consigned to some forgotten bottom drawer!
 
The Scottish-born Anderson is widely recognized as the man who introduced the flute to rock music, and he remains the crowned exponent of the popular and rock genres of flute playing.  So far no pretender to the throne has stepped forward.  Ian also plays ethnic flutes and whistles together with acoustic guitar and the mandolin family of instruments...an integral part of the Tull repertoire.
 
Anderson has, so far, recorded four diverse solo albums in addition to his Tull offerings, and appears frequently in solo concerts with both orchestras and his eclectic acoustic shows.
 
For Anderson music is a family affair, as his wife of 25 years, Shona, is an active director of their music and other companies, and their children, James and Gael, work in the music and TV/film industries respectively.
 
The Andersons live on a farm in southwest England where he grown hot peppers and otherwise indulges in hobbies like studying the conservation of the world's 26 species of small wildcats and collecting mechanical watches and vintage cameras.
And while he keeps a couple of off-road competition motorcycles, he owns no fast car...Ian has never gotten around to taking a driving test!
