Merry-Go-Round Playhouse’s Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival Declared a Success

The inaugural season of the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse's Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival was a success, according to Festival organizers. The Festival, held in Auburn, N.Y., included nine musicals and played a significant role in shaping 20 new musicals during the 2012 season. Downtown Auburn also saw a boost in activity as patrons visited restaurants and spent time in the city.

Syracuse Stage presents White Christmas, based on the Paramount Pictures film with Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin and Book by David Ives and Paul Blake. The production is directed by Paul Barnes with musical direction by Christopher Drobny and choreography by David Wanstreet. White Christmas runs November 23 - December 30. Vassar Drama Department Presents LYSISTRATA, 12/6-8

The Vassar Drama department will present three performances of Aristophanes' comedic satire about war and sex, Lysistrata, directed by guest artist Ianthe Demos, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 6, 7, and 8, at 8:00pm, in the Martel Theater of the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film. Demos, a 2000 Vassar graduate, co-founded the critically acclaimed One Year Lease theater company (OYL) in 2001 and their work has been widely praised by the New York Times and New York magazine among other outlets. Reservations are required for these free public performances, and can be made by calling the Drama department box office at (845) 437-5599 or emailing boxoffice@vassar.edu. ITHT is has announced the triumphant return of the incredibly gifted actress and singer, Carole Demas in a concert created to benefit Irvington Town Hall Theater. Star of Broadway, television, cabaret, concerts and more, Ms. Demas, best known as the originator of 'Sandy' in Broadway's Grease, was Luisa in NYC's The Fantasticks, introduced the title role in Stephen Schwartz's The Baker's Wife and starred in TV's iconic Magic Garden, PBS's Great Performances and other shows.

Brian Dykstra Premieres New Work at the Kitchen Theatre, 11/28-12/16

And now for something completely different! The next offering on the Kitchen Theatre's 22nd Main Stage season is a world premiere by award winning playwright, actor and HBO Def Poet Brian Dykstra*. A solo performance that combines standup comedy with storytelling, rabble rousing and down-home preaching, Brian Dykstra Selling Out runs November 28th to December 16th at the Kitchen Theatre in downtown Ithaca. Previews are November 28, 29, and 30, Opening Night is December 1st, and performances continue through December 16, 2012.

The Skidmore College Department of Theater has announced its Fall 2012 mainstage production, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by William Shakespeare, directed by Doug Seldin. Performances are tonight, November 16-18 and November 29-December 2. All shows are in the Janet Kinghorn Bernhard Theater at 8:00pm except Sunday matinees at 2:00pm.
