The Hangar Theatre has announced the company's 39th Mainstage Season, which includes two beloved American classics and two regional premieres of cutting-edge new works fresh from Broadway and Off-Broadway. The 2013 season will kick off this summer with the classic American comedy Last of the Red Hot Lovers (June 13 - 29), followed by one of the greatest musicals of all time,Gypsy (July 4 - 20). Next is the regional premiere of 4000 Miles (July 25 - August 3), a highly acclaimed new play, followed by the regional premiere of the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning play Clybourne Park (August 8 - 17). As a third year festival participant, I was thrilled to joined SBU Theater in four days of shows, competitions and a whole lot of Starbucks.

Geva Theatre Center's 2013 Fielding Nextstage Season kicks off with The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, written by Mike Daisey. Directed by Mark Cuddy and performed by Remi Sandri, the production begins performances on January 24 and runs in the Fielding Nextstage through February 10.
THE WHIPPING MAN Begins 1/23 at Kitchen Theatre

In 1865, the Jewish holiday of Passover began the day after Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox. This historical moment is the jumping off place for Matthew Lopez's suspenseful Civil War drama The Whipping Man, which receives its Central New York premiere at the Kitchen Theatre in downtown Ithaca this month. The Whipping Man runs from January 23rd through February 10th, with preview performances January 23-25, Opening Night on January 26, and the closing performance on February 10.

Christoph von Dohnányi will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct an all-Beethoven program that includes the Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus; Piano Concerto No. 1, with soloist Radu Lupu; and Symphony No. 5 on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, February 1 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, February 2 at 8:00 p.m.

Brett Smock Joins Merry-Go-Round Playhouse and Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival

Brett Smock has joined the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse and Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival as general manager and associate artistic director. In this role, Smock will work with Producing Director Ed Sayles and assume the responsibilities currently assigned to the interim managing director, while placing a particular emphasis on talent negotiations, cost control and new play development. Smock is based in New York City. He is a well-known creative producer, director and choreographer within the theater industry with a special interest in developing new plays and musicals.
