Kitchen Theatre Building Receives LEED Certification

By:

The Kitchen Theatre Company is pleased to announce that its recently renovated building at 417 West Martin Luther King, Jr. Street, Ithaca, NY has received LEED certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to set a benchmark for design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings.

An announcement and celebration of this achievement will be held on Monday, April 22 at 8:30am at the Kitchen Theatre Company.

The Kitchen Theatre Company is among a very small group of theaters across the country that have completed construction projects that reach this level of environmental friendliness in design, construction and operation. The Kitchen Theatre Company's project included high efficiency HVAC, building materials that meet green standards, recycling of existing materials during the demolition process, and green insulation materials, among others.

The Kitchen Theatre Company thanks the Park Foundation for support to begin this process and the many supporters of the Capital Campaign for a Bold New Space. It was through the encouragement of many that the Kitchen Theatre Company pursued this level of green construction and demolition.

Key players who helped the KTC reach this goal were Jason K. Demarest, architect, Karen Lee, consulting architect, Jerry Dietz, construction manager, Taitem Engineering, Eric Russell at NYSERDA, Greg Hartz and Percy Browning, Capital Campaign Cabinet Co-Chairs and over 200 individual donors to the project.

Bold, intimate, engaging... Kitchen Theatre Company (KTC), in its 22nd season, is downtown Ithaca's critically acclaimed and nationally recognized year-round professional theater company, specializing in regional and world premiere plays and musicals. KTC's intimate 99-seat theater is in its newly renovated "green" building in the West End neighborhood of downtown Ithaca, New York. KTC is the first not-for-profit recipient of the David R. Strong Memorial "Small Business of the Year" Award from the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce and receives public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency, the Ithaca Urban Renewal Agency, and the Tompkins County Tourism Program. The Kitchen Theatre Company also receives general operating support from the Shubert Foundation.
