This just seems crazy from a LTC standpoint. I know they have produced truly limited engagements of musicals before Woman on the Verge and Falsettos, but those productions are not produced at the Beaumont. Nearly all musical LTC mounts at the Beaumont, are positioned for open ended runs. As such  I would think LTC would hold off on scheduling anything at the Beaumont until summer at earliest in case Flying Over Sunset is a hit. I know the odds of  Flying Over Sunset  being a smash hit right now are slim, but this seems to hint that LTC does not have much faith in the show.

Yeah, 3 months is a VERY limited run. Just very interesting. I'm excited to see a big, splashy new musical so now I guess I've got to get my tickets quick.

Very excited for this! I was sadly out of town for the TFANA production, so I’m thrilled to finally be able to see a professional production of this piece. It’s a wild, fascinating, brilliant mess of a play. Blaine-Cruz wouldn’t necessarily have been the first person I thought of to direct it, but she’s a really strong director and I’m excited to see what she does with it (will this be her Broadway debut?)

Telecharge is only selling tickets for Flying Over Sunset through February 6. That might be the answer as to when it will end its limited engagement.

Oh look, a bibu!

Thanks trying to see Caroline - another super limited engagement - and Flying at the same time. Guess my only option is Dec.

One of my favorite plays when it is done right. I wouldn't read too much into the limited run question. If it is a success it can move. It doesn't really need the Beaumont whereas Skin will be able to make great use of the very special space.

Not too familiar with “Skin…” Is this gonna be one that’ll be a draw for a “name” cast?

I thought the cast and production value alone would have people buying tickets left and right. I guess this has not been selling well? I haven't looked after buying a ticket for January.

Maybe there are just plans to transfer it? Just seems odd but Caroline is a very strict engagement too.

I love this space and theater, so excited to see what they do!

I guess it makes sense that Flying Over Sunset would be limited, but if it's as good as I dream it will be... I'll be disappointed not to see it through to Tony season.

Yes, I think it could, depending on the star.

For reference – the great Tallulah Bankhead originated the role of Sabina, so that was some big star-casting in the original production. Also, when Kander & Ebb turned it into a musical, Eartha Kitt played the fortune teller – although the role is not quite as meaty in the original play.

On top of that, you have Mr. and Mrs. Antrobus – both meaty, leading roles.

It would just be a question of finding stars who are willing to do such a weird project. Adam Driver for George Antrobus? That would be fun!

I think the limited run for Flying Over Sunset has less to do with "lack of faith" in the project and more that LCT is trying to be realistic.

Ticket sales are down most everywhere. No one wants to talk about it but its happening. There are plenty of places Off-Broadway and in the regional world who have had to cancel performances because of low ticket sales. This isnt a grand revival of a well known property like King and I or My Fair Lady. Its new, centers on LSD use, and doesnt feature names known outside the theater world. It's ability to become a smash success is greatly hampered in this covid environment. We also have no idea if the leads have other contracts coming up. If even one does, thats more casting and rehearsals ($$) for something not guaranteed to be a hit. So probably better for LCT to focus on the "must see it now" aspect of a limited run where they can also rely more heavily on their member base.

This is the production Im most excited for this season. Id love it to run thru the tonys. But I do understand this decision

Sucks that "Sunset" is only a three month run.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I'm sure you remember the subscriber backlash when Warhorse stayed at the Beaumont for a commercial run....

Very excited about this as I've NEVER seen a production of this!  Hope I can get to see it.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I'm eager to see SKIN. I vaguely recall a production of it many years ago with Elizabeth Ashley playing the maid. Other than the way she pronounced the name "Antrobus", I recall little else

Wasn't there a TV version in the early 80's with Sada Thompson and...I wanna ssy...Blair Brown...?

FLYING OVER SUNSET could feasibly extend through Feb 27 or March 6, if SKIN is beginning previews on March 31. But that is an esoteric musical and while I hope it's a hit, they probably realize it would be a tough sell come springtime.

Above all, it allows LCT members to have two Broadway shows in one season after the devastation of last year. From an optics perspective, it also allows LCT to say they put a play with a Black female director on the main stage in their first season back (and let's assume a mostly-POC cast).

THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH is the type of play that an institution like LCT should be doing: a big, ambitious production that probably wouldn't have been done commercially.

Ever since I first saw a show at the Beaumont, I’ve wanted them to mount a huge production of The Skin of Our Teeth there. It’s an inspired choice for such a unique space, and a great play especially to produce for a subscription house.

I keep forgetting this is happening, but previews are supposed to start in 2 months. Cast and ticketing announcement this week or next, maybe (hopefully)?

Love this play so much. Never saw a professionally mounted production, but the Theater School at De Paul put it on when I was there in the late 80's. Loooved it.

Hoping that it is better than the misguided production done at the Delacorte.in 1998.  David Cromer would be a splendid choice for directing; I am basing my opinion on his understanding of Wilder's OUR TOWN (acting and directing it) and the spectacular work he is showcasing now at PRAYER FOR THE FRENCH REPUBLIC.
