Thank you for the heads-up. Just pre-ordered my Blu-ray. I have the DVD with the audio commentary with Stritch, etc so it’s great seeing EVERYTHING being compiled all together onto one single Blu-ray disc. Whoo-hoo!
This is great! I love the vintage look of the cover.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
This is great news (and July brings their release of BRINGING UP BABY, another favorite), but re the description of the film— Why has Sondheim become the cool and brutal taskmaster and Stritch the terrorized victim? Can we no longer acknowledge that she was plastered and wasting money and time to fuel her own sense of... whatever? SS doesn’t come across as cuddly, but a totally levelheaded professional in the doc.
Anyway, the bonuses seem amazing! They got my money already.
The original 1970 album is now available on remastered Hybrid Stereo and Quadraphonic SACD (which will also play in stereo on CD players) from Dutton Vocalion in the UK.
I want this so badly but I'm pretty sure nothing I own can play 4K Blu Ray. Any word on these things being sold as digital downloads or does that just mean I need to bite the bullet and pay for Criterion?

It will play in any device that plays Blu-Ray. The restoration was done in 4k but this is just a regular Blu-Ray. A little confusing I know.
So do you think it'll play on a PS4? I know those don't play 4K UHD Blu Rays but I guess there's a different between a 4K UHD Blu-Ray and and Blu-Ray restored in 4K.

I agree with this statement 1000%! Plus on top of the commentary you get the best this film has ever looked, plus the vintage DVD commentary, outtakes from the vintage commentary, a new conversation between Sondheim and Jonathan Tunick, AND the CO-OP parody plus a reunion of participants in the parody including Renée Elise Goldsberry and Alex Brightman! Even at FULL PRICE this is worth every penny and more!!! Can't recommend it enough!
This is a true treasure trove. I still need to rewatch with Sondheim’s commentary but the picture quality has obviously been lovingly restored as good as it can probably ever be and I appreciate that they largely kept the natural grain intact and didn’t try to filter it or at least over filter it. I too was confused by the boasting of a 4K restoration knowing that a regular blu-ray release is not 4K resolution. Rest assured this is indeed a regular blu-ray that will play just fine on any blu-ray player and it’s worth it.
