Brantley rarely knows where the momentum lies. Green is a little more aware, but then again, there’s still a month to go.
I’d personally love to see Rigg win. I thought she was entirely memorable and more impactful than I remember Mrs. Higgins to be. I think it would be a nice pair with her potential Emmy Award for Game of Thrones later this year.
But really, those musical featured categories...so up in the air! Actually they all are except leading actress. The Band’s Visit bei

The NYT critics always name Off-Broadway shows/actors they liked in the “should have been nominated” category. I think it’s their way of saying these ineligible productions/performances were on par with (or even better than) the Tony nominees. That’s all.

I think Stachel could win. There have been weirder wins in that category (Christian Hoff and Gabriel Ebert come to mind). If The Band’s Visit has momentum and they want to reward it where they can, he could come out on top.

When shows like The Color Purple, On Your Feet, and Miss Saigon close, those very talented actors of color need jobs. Heaven forbid those talented people who were good enough to be in those Broadway shows get other gigs where their cast mates are white. How ludicrous for there to be more than one talented actor of color in an entire cast because it would be a disproportionate amount of people of color in the world of the show. But the reality? These entire casts of people (from all three shows)

I think people like Dave fail to realize how rare it is for casting directors to bring in people of color for leading and featured roles, especially romantic roles. They are typically only brought in for “diversity” or when a show/role is specifically about race, very rarely for the talent of the performer.

I happened to have tickets for May 18. Good to know! Although, I would not have been disappointed if I saw his replacement, whom I hear is quite good as well.
RippedMan said: "Best Actor really is a toss up this year. I think Slater is great in the role but also feel a little like eh giving an award to someone playing a Sponge... I don't know... And Tony was really great in The Band's Visit."
It's definitely the best portrayal of a sponge I've ever seen.

Ethan Slater wins the first big showdown. I think Best Actor is the most interesting, up-in-the-air award this year.

If that’s the case, then Band’s Visit or Once On This Island have a better shot at scene design than My Fair Lady or SpongeBob.

People complaining about McPhee, if you hear their asides, she was having trouble because the TelePrompTer wrote out the names phonetically and it was harder to read that than the actual names. I’m more offended that they’re saying Hammerstein’s name incorrectly.
I’m thrilled for John Leguizamo and Latin History for Morons.
