Will Greg have a 6 month contract?

Damn. I love that they keep pulling in great names.

Granted, it only makes me more bitter this couldn't happen for HELLO, DOLLY. (I still wanted a Vanessa Williams/Brian Stoke Mitchell ticket)

Unexpected, but he might be just wonderful!

I'm guessing the Lee estate and Sorkin are more open than Jerry sadly was about Dolly replacement ideas. Still so sad we couldn't get a new Dolly every 6-8 weeks.

Well drat! I didn't check how long Ed Harris was going to be in the role before buying tickets for May...I think KInnear will be fine but I was actually more excited about Harris in the role than Jeff Daniels....Kinnear is fine but I wouldn't have been  compelled to get a ticket with him in the lead...

I’m a bit surprised so many people seem excited for this casting, here and elsewhere. Kinnear doesn’t seem to have the gravitas necessary for the role. I’ve always found his style somewhat smarmy and hokey. But go Greg

I remember Greg when he became known doing Talk Soup on E! back in the early 90's. He was great and over the years has become a pretty fair actor with some solid film credits though it feels like his career has stalled a bit the last few years. I'm sure he'll do a great job however, after people at the level of Jeff Daniels and Ed Harris, I can't help feeling like Greg is a bit of a step down.

Kinnear's had a lot of film and TV roles, but almost no stage experience from what I can find.  I'm baffled by this casting, and a bit annoyed since we have tickets in May.

This feels like a pretty mammoth role to lay on someone with no legit stage experience and few acting credits as of late. Clearly he must've impressed them but it's still a really surprising choice.

I think this is exciting casting, simply because we don't know exactly what we're going to get, but you know Scott Rudin wouldn't put just anyone in this. Let's not forget, he went directly from hosting a cable TV clip show to a starring role as Harrison Ford's brother in Sydney Pollack's Sabrina, then to an Oscar-nominated performance in As Good As It Gets, not long after. I think a stage role is a natural progression for his versatile acting career. I had no desire to see the show again with Ed Harris, but I might go again for him.

These are the perils of opening a Broadway show with a star: Nobody of similar stature wants to follow them (Bette in Dolly, Nathan in The Producers, Hugh in Boy From Oz)

I don't know how much these Atticus actors are helping at the box office. Daniels & Harris struggled to fill houses in other recent plays. The title is doing most of the work, with the added bonus of "oh yeah that guy's in it."

Agreed. To me, exciting star casting is like... Tom Hanks, Sam Waterston, Matthew McConaughey, Bryan Cranston, etc. Actors with real name recognition.

Woody Harrelson would make a great Atticus.

Jeff Daniels and Ed Harris are great actors with strong resumes, but Kinnear is inspired casting and makes me want to go NOW. Saw the movie Sabrina again recently and he (in first real screen role, I think) was fantastic, even opposite seasoned pros like Nancy Marchand.

YES! I also think Tracy Letts and Michael Shannon could fit the role as well, but I don’t think they would light the box office on fire.

John Lithgow and John Larroquette might be good too, but I think they read just a little older than the part would require (though these actors are 72/74 and Ed Harris is 69).

I was around in the nineties and remember a lot of snarkiness toward Kinnear because he started out as a comic and TV show host. He’s now been working steadily as an actor for 25+ years and has long since proved his mettle. I’m sure he’ll be more than adequate as Atticus Finch.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

We too bought tickets for May thinking Ed Harris would still be there.I also want to see Nic Robinson and Taylor Trench!  Any idea id they will leave before the end of May. We were lucky to see the OBC

I didn't realize Ed Harris had such a short contract but I guess it's not surprising either. I had been holding off on buying tickets but will definitely do so now so I can see Ed. I'm sure Greg will be fine in the role but I personally prefer to see Ed.

I think Kinnear will be fine. I've thought that Jon Hamm would be a great Atticus, and I'm hoping it might still happen.

I also think Hamm would be terrific in the role!
