Side question, I’m sure it would depend on the show and who else is involved, but what would the cut of the profits be for a director the stature of Alex Timbers. Curious how much he raked in with how well his shows did last week.

If "Tootsie" can only gross 53% of capacity over Thanksgiving weekend, it was wise to pack it in.

For the past 3 or 4 weeks, whenever I try to view the grosses, I only see the first show in the list (A Christmas Carol for now). Has anyone else encountered this issue?

I’m having the same issue, but only on certain devices. I can view them on my phone, but not on my Windows computer (tried on Chrome and Internet Explorer).

How does Hadestown achieve 148% gross potential?? Is it all in premium tickets? I can't imagine it accounts for people flipping tickets, does it?

Yes, I believe it's all premium ticketing. Remember that the Kerr is fairly small. In fact, of the 14 shows that grossed over 100% potential this week, Hadestown is in the smallest theatre. Relatedly, it also has the lowest potential gross out of those 14. So with a lower potential gross, and the smaller house, the percentage will be higher even if the quantity and price of the premium tickets are roughly the same. In other words, it's easier to reach 145% of a smaller number. And on top of that, Hadestown premium tickets are also extremely just expensive already, which amplifies the effect even more. 

(Anyone feel free to correct me if any of that is wrong, or if there's a key factor I'm missing)

No, the grosses only reflect what people paid directly from the ticket source. So if a scalper buys a ticket for $100, and sells it for $150, the gross will only reflect the $100.

I wonder how much the margin of error is with scalpers on capacity # if reports only account sales from box office or do they count capacity as how many people show up? For example I got my ticket off StubHub. The two seats next to me and 6 seats in the row in front of me were also listed on StubHub but never sold therefore they ended up being empty. That would mean those seats would still count as sold & filled (box office still profited, scalpers loss out)?

From what I understand, yes, that's correct: those empty seats would still be counted as filled in the capacity numbers. And yes, the scalpers would be taking the loss in that case. As for the margin of error, I couldn't say. I'm sure it's different at every performance and for every show.

it breaks my heart that The Inheritance isn't performing strongly - even during the Holiday - where I'd imagine there were a ton of folks in NYC from out of town.  I will say that when I saw it a few weeks ago, it looked sold out

I expect the reviews for JLP to be pretty divisive with similar complaints to what is found on here so I doubt they’ll booster box office. While box office percentage isn’t that strong, the actual gross amount is. Still, I’m sure the producers and creatives were hoping for a stronger numbers at this point. If they’re grossing around 73% during holiday week, not sure the numbers will go up or even consistently stay there.

One of the unfortunate issues with holiday weeks is that straight plays often see their grosses reduced...because everyone wants to see a musical.  Mockingbird and Harry Potter fall outside of that general observation, as do those rare plays that are already selling out.  The same thing will happen Christmas week.

Always thought that Cher had a bigger following than Tina--seems not.

Tina crosses ALL boundries, Cher a select few-maybe.

Tina was out here[Australia] for a football promo-raw energy successfully working the crowd.

Cher has sold more records than Tina by a narrow margin  However I think a Tina has a far more compelling catalog and cultural relevance  

I was just musing as to why Cher still sells out arenas and Madonna is struggling to sell theatres  Then I remembered that Cher lately really just churns out generic pop music that C****nay moms and gays can bop to and Madonna is still attempting to create art that isn’t palatable to the masses

My take is that Cher is still touring, so why go see (very good) impersonations on Broadway when you can still go see the real deal...? Tina Turner isn't touring or performing any longer, so her brand has entered the nostalgia market... and with Adrienne Warren giving the sensational performance she is as Tina, they are focusing on bringing fans back to celebrate her golden age in the industry while Cher fans would rather spend their money seeing Cher Live before she stops touring, rather than the fantastic (but- not Cher) SJB as Cher.

Or maybe it's because Cher has cheaper tickets and shows up on time.

I will say I went to see Cher on tour this past year and loved it. On the other hand, Madonna's new album was a total dud to me and therefore didn't want to sit through her new concert since you can't have your phone and she doesn't go on for hours. Sounded like a terrible experience.

The Inheritance will have a tough time in January and February, especially weeknights*. Part 1 is on TDF for multiple dates, and unlike previews, stays up. This Wed. matinee is up (I'm going). I'm wondering if they'll offer more combination packages, if the original offer expired.  

*Forget tourists, a lot of people in the NYC area, even just the boros, don't like to come out of the theater at 11 p.m. It's a problem for a straight play. The curtain is 7:30, and 7 would be better. The matinee's 1 p.m. should be the model.  Put people on the street by 10:30.  Small thing, but 3 friends don't want to see it on weeknights because it ends so late. Not because of length, a tellling difference.

I thought the evening performances for INHERITANCE starts at 7pm (probably real start ist 7:05pm). I know what you mean though about those living in the boroughs or tri-state area since they most likely have trains to catch at around 11pm. If they miss that train, then the next one normally leaves an hour later.

I wonder how long The Inheritance can go on with those figures. I loved it in London and am due to see it on Broadway at the end of next month. Beginning to wonder if it will still be playing.
