McDaniel College offers a variety of art, music, theatre, literary, film and other events during the spring of 2017.

Opening Reception: Thursday, Jan. 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a gallery talk at 6 p.m.

This exhibition features works by four McDaniel alumnae, including Caitlin Bennett, a 2013 graduate from Bothell, Wash., Sara Caporaletti, a 2014 graduate from Damascus, Md., Julia "Cheeny" Celebrado-Royer, a 2014 graduate from Baltimore, and chanan delivuk, a 2008 graduate from Baltimore.

Caitlin Bennett displays postcards from her "Greetings from America" series created in response to the media coverage of the race riots in Ferguson, Mo., and Baltimore, while Sara Caporaletti displays her recent mixed media work examining her experiences as a practicing Catholic. A Filipino artist, Julia "Cheeny" Celebrado-Royer creates installations, sculptures and conceptual works using discarded, recycled and re-purposed materials. In addition, chanan delivuk uses new media, including photography, video and audio, to create installations that focus on family, conversation and food, such as "navigating family in an unfamiliar place" about her trip to Croatia.

RYAN HOOVER

Thursday, Feb. 9, 7 p.m.

Baltimore artist Ryan Hoover presents a visiting artist lecture. Hoover teaches at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in the interdisciplinary sculpture department.

Hoover employs a range of digital, biological and traditional artistic media to explore technology, its history and the future of its impact on society and the individual. He exhibits throughout the United States, as well as internationally, and is a board member of the Baltimore Under Ground Science Space, where he leads research and development on bioprinting. His current long-term project at the Baltimore Under Ground Science Space is a collaborative endeavor developing a 3D printer that constructs objects from living biological materials. www.ryanhoover.org

AMBER ROBLES-GORDON

McDaniel hosts a visiting artist lecture by mixed-media artist Amber Robles-Gordon. Known for her use of found objects and textile to create assemblages, large-scale sculptures and installations, her work is representational of her experiences and the paradoxes within the female experience.

An advocate for the Washington, D.C., area arts community, Robles-Gordon has more than 15 years of exhibiting, art education and exhibition coordinating experience. She had an apprenticeship creating public art installations with the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and was selected to present for the Under the Influence competition as part of the 30 Americans Exhibition at theCorcoran Gallery of Art. MONDAY NIGHT MUSIC: a schubert evening

McDaniel College's Monday Night Music series features a concert by mezzo soprano and senior lecturer in music Kyle Engler and pianist and senior lecturer in music David Kreider, along with cellist Maxim Kozlov, highlighting Schubert. The performance includes some of Schubert's art songs and impromptus for piano, as well as the "Arpeggione" Sonata for cello and piano.

MONDAY NIGHT MUSIC: romantic works for horn and piano

McDaniel College's Monday Night Music series presents Lynne Griffith, adjunct lecturer in music, on horn and Rachel Andrews, an instrumental accompanist at McDaniel, on piano. Among the pieces to be performed are Beethoven's "Sonata, Op. 17," Strauss' "Nocturno, Op. 7," and Czerny's "Fantasie Brillante on Themes of Franz Schubert, Op. 339."

Common Ground on the Hill at McDaniel College presents a music workshop with Bruce Molsky's Mountain Drifters. Grammy-nominated Bruce Molsky, known as "one of America's premier fiddling talents," is touring throughout the United States with his New Group.

Chamber Music on the Hill, in residence at McDaniel College, showcases McDaniel music faculty members in a concert of strings, piano and voice. Faculty members are senior lecturer in music Kyle Engler, music lecturer Nicholas Currie, adjunct music faculty member Tim Anderson, senior lecturer in music David Kreider and adjunct music faculty member Donald Horneff. Works being performed include art songs by Richard Strauss, "Sonata for Violin and Piano" by Gabriel Faure' and compositions for harpsichord, violin and cello, as well as works for four hands at one piano.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, as well as active military members and veterans, and free for children and college students with valid ID.

*THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES

Friday, Feb. 3-Saturday, Feb. 4, 7:30 p.m.

McDaniel College students perform Eve Ensler's infamous play, "The Vagina Monologues." The performance is in association with V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls.

12 STEPS: a one-man show written and performed by richard sautter

Saturday, Feb. 11, 7:30 p.m.

This one-man show is written and performed by Richard Sautter, adjunct instructor in theatre arts at McDaniel. He uses his humor and sharp observation skills to examine the conflicted feelings that most performing artists have about their careers. After more than two decades in the world of show business, he has decided that the theatre is an addiction rather than a profession, so he puts himself through the 12-steps of addiction recovery, making a show out of his quest to quit doing shows.

*STUDENT-DIRECTED PLAY FESTIVAL: "impromptu" and "the actor's nightmare"

McDaniel's Department of Theatre Arts presents a student-directed play festival featuring two one-act plays. McDaniel senior Brandi Weyers of Northfield, Mass., directs Tad Mosel's "Impromptu" about four unsuspecting actors asked to improvise a play that reveals their true selves. McDaniel junior BranDon Richards of Huntingtown, Md., directs "The Actor's Nightmare" by Tony Award-winning playwright Christopher Durang, which finds a man thrown on stage in a performance for which he has never rehearsed.

THE RACE TO FREEDOM: developed by mcdaniel's devised theatre class
