Referred to as one of New York City's most remarkable spaces, The Firehouse Space, a former firehouse located in Brooklyn, will play host to a free film screening for FDNY first responders on January 29, it has been announced today.

The free film screening, which will begin at 7 p.m., will be presented by acclaimed filmmaker Jorge Valdés-Iga, writer and director of the film entitled I Was There, which tells the story of Gus (played by New York-based actor and writer James A. Lee), a Manhattan firefighter struggling to come to terms with his role during the 9/11 attacks. The film also stars Carl Ford and Sebastian Zurita. I Was There was written by Valdés-Iga, Lee and Sinead Daly. Valdés-Iga will also welcome members of the general public to enjoy the special screening for a suggested donation. Donations raised will go to the FealGood Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to providing care for 9/11 first responders injured during the attacks.

The film marked its World Premiere at the Fiuggi Film Festival in Italy this year, as well as its successful U.S. Premiere at the Rhode Island International Film Festival this past summer as an 'Official Selection.' The Firehouse Space is located at 246 Frost Street, Brooklyn, New York. For more information, visit www.thefirehousespace.org.
