Little Brother Makes Good - Finally!- NY Premiere of Francesco Scarlatti work in Sacred Music in a Sacred Space
Well-known for it's superb execution and interesting programming, the Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola, Kent Tritle, conductor, will perform a program of Italian Baroque works. Included is the Miserere of Francesco Scarlatti, the little brother of Alessandro who remained in the shadow of his brother and nephew Dominico for most of his career. Also on the program: Palestrina's Stabat Mater for double choir, so popular that Richard Wagner make an adaptation of it for larger forces; Vivaldi's Stabat Mater and Caldara's Cruxificus.

New York Premiere of newly discovered C.P.E. Bach work, really!

The professional Choir of St. Luke's in the Fields will present the New York premiere of C.P.E. Bach's St. Matthew with soloists and orchestra of period instruments on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 8 pm. There is a pre-concert lecture at 7 pm.

These Passions were never published in Bach's lifetime, and survive only in manuscript form. They were lost after World War II and were only rediscovered in 1999. In 2001, they were returned to their home at the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin, where they remain to this day. They are currently being transcribed into modern, engraved editions.

Church of St. Luke's in the Fields
487 Hudson Street, between Christopher and Grove
Admission: $30; students / seniors $20
