Amber Ruffin's BIGFOOT, THE MUSICAL Premieres At Majestic Majestic Repertory Theatre is proud to present the world premiere of Bigfoot, The Musical by Amber Ruffin (Late Night with Seth Myers and Comedy Central's Drunk History), Kevin Sciretta (iO Chicago), and David Schmoll (The Second City). The musical comedy offers the origination story of America's most famous mythological creature. It is directed by Troy Heard (Awarded Best Director by Desert Companion Magazine, 2012, 2014 & 2018 and Las Vegas Review-Journal, 2012) and will run at Majestic Repertory Theatre, June 28 - July 15, 2018. Tickets are on sale now.

About Bigfoot, The Musical: You've heard the myth and legend...but do you know the man? In the perpetually economically depressed town of Mud Dirt, the perpetually ill Francine is the mother of an eight-year-old boy who has the body of a fully grown adult. Due to a glandular problem brought on by radioactive waste buried nearby, the boy continues to grow larger and larger through the years and is covered by hair. As the town's mayor drives Mud Dirt into bankruptcy with his alcoholism and gambling, he uses the overgrown Bigfoot as a scapegoat and turns the citizens into an angry mob that pursues the youngster into the woods...and into infamy.

"I wrote Bigfoot because I wanted to have a good time," said Ruffin. "I wondered if I could write a musical where every song was a party, and I think I did. Bigfoot is a musical about never losing hope even when things are terrible, even when you're all out of money and friends, and everyone hates your guts. It's a good time musical about hope."

"It's an incredible honor to be entrusted with the premiere of any writer's baby," said Majestic's Artistic Director Troy Heard, "But to bring to life the origin tale of one of America's most cherished figures is a particularly special occasion."

"While Amber is off spending her time receiving Emmy nominations and updating the book of the classic Broadway musical The Wiz, Majestic Rep is dedicating hours to noble pursuits such as choreographing pool float dance routines and searching for the perfect shade of 'bestial' fur for the lead's costume," said Heard. "Amber certainly found the right theatre for this job."

A Nebraska native, Amber Ruffin has written for Late Night with Seth Meyers since 2014, becoming the first African American woman to write for a late-night network talk show in the U.S. In addition to writing for Late Night, Ruffin also appears on the program, and her segments "Amber Says What" and "Jokes Seth Can't Tell," are both wildly popular.

Ruffin's other writing credits include: The 75th Golden Globe Awards (2018), 66th Primetime Emmy Awards (2014) and Comedy Central's Detroiters. Ruffin can also be seen as a series regular on the Emmy Award-winning Drunk History. Recently, she hosted the 2018 Writers Guild Awards in New York and will host the upcoming 2018 Webby Awards.
