Vanessa Vasquez of LA BOHEME at Santa Fe Opera

Colombian-American soprano Vanessa Vasquez, winner of the 2017 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, recently completed a residency at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. While there, she sang as Mimi in La boheme, Gilda in Rigoletto, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and Violetta in La traviata. She made her professional opera debut in summer 2017 as Liu in Turandot at the Des Moines Metro Opera. This past season, she was Violetta at Arizona Opera and, currently, she is appearing as Mimi in La boheme at Santa Fe Opera.

Teatro Paraguas, Santa Fe Playhouse, and Ironweed Productions present This fall, Teatro Paraguas, the Santa Fe Playhouse, and Ironweed Productions join forces -with a cast of 17 actors from Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and beyond-to bring Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Quiara Alegria Hudes' masterful epic, The Elliot Trilogy, to Santa Fe. This powerful trilogy consists of Elliot: a Soldier's Fugue, Pulitzer Prize-winner Water by the Spoonful, and The Happiest Song Plays Last. The plays follow Elliot Ortiz from the battlegrounds of Iraq, to a Subway sandwich shop in his home of Philadelphia, to his roots in Puerto Rico, and back to the Middle East to confront a past that has haunted him since the war. The plays span four generations and over 60 years, grappling with the impacts of war and addiction on families and how redemption can be found within intergenerational care, compassion, and wisdom.

]When the pop-rock band Pablo Cruise performs at the Spencer Theater on Friday, June 28 at 8 p.m., fans will hear favorites like "Whatcha Gonna Do?," "Love Will Find a Way," "I Want You Tonight," "Cool Love" and "Place in the Sun."Those songs were all chart-topping hits in the 1970s, an era in which Pablo Cruise released eight albums and ruled the airwaves. Known for their catchy rhythms, lyrics and extended, virtuoso riffs on  keyboard, guitar and percussion, the band traveled the world in concert, succeeding in their groovin' and cruisin' slant towards life - an approach which explains why they selected the name "Pablo Cruise" for their group in the first place (Pablo being a common, down-to-earth guy's name and Cruise being what it is).

The Santa Fe Opera Announces Casting Update For LA BOHEME Opening June 28

The Santa Fe Opera announces a casting update for La boh me, which opens the season on Friday, June 28. Nicaraguan-American soprano Gabriella Reyes will assume the role of Musetta, replacing Kirsten MacKinnon, who has withdrawn from the production for personal reasons. Reyes is a 2017 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions grand finalist and recently made her Metropolitan Opera debut as the High Priestess in Aida, followed by performances as First Lady in The Magic Flute and Nella in Gianni Schicchi. After Reyes's Santa Fe Opera debut, she will be heard as Li in Turandot at the Metropolitan Opera and at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Marko Nikodijevi and Marina Abramovic's 7 Deaths of Maria Callas.
