Primary Stages, in association with Mahega Productions, will present the final production of its 2005-2006 season, the New York Premiere of A Safe Harbor for Elizabeth Bishop, by Marta Góes, featuring the OBIE winning and Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated actress Amy Irving.

With direction by Richard Jay-Alexander, the show's preview performances are set to begin 7PM Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street between Park & Madison Avenues) for a limited run through April 30, 2006. Opening night is Thursday evening, March 30, 2006 at 7:00PM.

"Irving plays the Pulitzer Prize winning poet Elizabeth Bishop, a woman whose profound passion for art and beauty produced four volumes of poetry, numerous short stories, and a near 20-year romance with the extraordinary Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares," state press notes. "
Marta Góes' play transports us to the harbors of Rio, Seattle, New York, and Boston, as it details a sweeping landscape of the truths behind commitment. Overflowing with love, loss, politics, and sexual intrigue, A Safe Harbor for Elizabeth Bishop invites us on a journey of redemption and self-acceptance."

The creative team includes Jeff Cowie (Sets), Ilona Somogyi (Costumes), Russell H. Champa (Lights), Zachary Borovay (Projections), and Fitz Patton (Sound).

Although best known as a film actress, Irving has appeared on Broadway in Amadeus, Heartbreak House, Broken Glass and Three Sisters, and off-Broadway in The Guys and Ghosts. She was Oscar-nominated for her performance in Yentl, and other screen credits include Tuck Everlasting, Thirteen Conversations About One Thing, Traffic, Deconstructing Harry, Micki + Maude, Honeysuckle Rose, and Carrie. She also provided the singing voice of Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
