Straz Center for the Performing Arts - Ferguson Hall
Introducing an all-new show focusing on the scientific hurdles involved in space travel. It's Just Rocket Science combines high-energy interactive comedy and an explosive line up of science routines tying directly to national and state content standards. Doktor Kaboom! creatively blends theater arts with the wonders of scientific exploration. Doktor Kaboom's supercharged (and super safe!) science experiments will have you erupting with laughter and bubbling with curiosity. Nothing says science like KABOOM! Doktor Kaboom is the creation of Actor / Comedian David Epley. Epley has been fortunate enough to discover two passions in his life. His first, science, took him to studies at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. His second, performing, became his career, and for 20 years Epley has made his living writing, performing, and directing original interactive comedy across the US and Canada. He now brings his passions together with an explosive style that refuses to allow his audiences time to catch a breath.

Now Playing Onstage in Tampa - Week of 4/27/2014 ROSE COUSINS
Straz Center for the Performing Arts - Jaeb Theater
"One of the great little-known albums of last year came from a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia - a seasoned and award-winning singer-songwriter who has steadily built a following here in the U.S. Rose Cousins' self-released We Have Made a Spark landed on Folk Alley's Best of 2012 list for its beautiful harmonies, creative arrangements and the sort of arresting songwriting that's sad even as it leaves listeners feeling hopeful. Among its songs is "What I See" - a tune about closure, struggling between wanting to hold on even as you must let go, and reckoning with the expectations you have for others as they begin to follow their own path. As always, Cousins' honest lyrics are as disarming as the music which accompanies them." - NPR

Now Playing Onstage in Tampa - Week of 4/27/2014 OKLAHOMA!
Patel Conservatory
The 'G2K' Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love's journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA! In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger attention spans, but all the elements that make this show a classic are still in place. You and your students will be enchanted by the timeless story and the dazzling score, while at the same time learning about theater and its production. Music by Rodgers, Richard; Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II; Based on the play GREEN GROW THE LILACS by Lynn Riggs; Original Dances by Agnes de Mille

Now Playing Onstage in Tampa - Week of 4/27/2014 GREASE
Eight O'Clock Theatre
Get out your leather jackets, pull on your bobby socks and take a trip to a simpler time. Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby socks and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their Summer Nights as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as Greased Lightnin', We Go Together, There Are Worse Things I Could Do, and You're the One That I Want recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An 8-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals place Grease among the world's most popular musicals. Get ready to hand-jive the night away with the show that'll make you want to stand up and shout, "A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop A-wop-bam-boom!" It's GREASE, the most "electrifyin'" musical extravaganza on stage! Be there or be square!

Stageworks Theatre
Aaron Sorkin (Moneyball, The Social Network, The West Wing) wrote this captivating courtroom drama which ran for 500 performances on Broadway in 1989 and became an Oscar nominated film in 1992. Originally inspired by true events, this taut, tense thriller erupts when two Marines are accused of the hazing death of a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay.The Navy lawyer, a callow young man more interested in softball games than the case, expects a plea bargain and a cover up of what really happened. Prodded by a female member of his defense team, the lawyer eventually makes a valiant effort to defend his clients and, in so doing, puts the military mentality and the Marine code of honor on trial.
