Think modern circus meets Mumford & Sons/Williamsburg, complete with wooden props and hoops made directly from resources available at the forests and farms surrounding their hometown. Their costumes are flannel shirts and lumberjack boots. They juggle with axes while playing guitar! TIMBER! runs October 13-19 at NYU Skirball (566 LaGuardia Place). Ensemble ACJW is designed to prepare young professional musicians for careers that combine musical excellence with teaching, community engagement, advocacy, and leadership. It offers performance opportunities, year-long partnerships within New York City public schools, and intensive professional development.

This solo show re-imagines the black experience through a host of characters as they battle the community they supposedly come from while fighting their own isolation in search of an identity that lives outside the box of tribalism.

Aronofsky will be in conversation with novelist and critic Lynne Tillman tonight, September 30, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. in the New Museum Theater.
