(10/25/2014) - Nandita Das, acclaimed actress of Indian cinema and human rights advocate, will appear in person at Museum of the Moving Image for a screening of Between the Lines (2014, 79 mins.), a cinematic adaptation of the 2012 play. Set in contemporary India where educated and affluent couples are caught between modernity and tradition, the film explores the relationship between a husband (Subodh Maskara) and wife (Nandita Das) who are both lawyers who have been married for ten years. They end up arguing on opposite sides of a criminal trial, resulting in the blurring of their personal and professional lives. The battle in the court starts to impact their relationship at home, and they struggle to find a new balance. Between the Lines is directed by Ritesh Manon.

Pine will perform Bach's Sonata in G Minor and selections from Paganini's 24 Caprices, Op. 1, plus new works dedicated to her from New York composers Mohammed Fairouz (“For Egypt” from Sonata for Unaccompanied Violin Native Informant, from 2011) and Earl Maneein (Be12(OH)12(BTB)4 Metal Organic Framework, from 2014). The concert will be hosted by Neighborhood Classics Founder and Artistic Director Simone Dinnerstein. All ticket sales for this one-hour, family-friendly concert benefit P.S. 321.

(10/24/2014) - The Brooklyn-based composer Paola Prestini's work has been deemed "radiant [and] amorously evocative" by The New York Times, which has also hailed "her gift for bringing together disparate artists, technicians and other creative professionals to produce cross-disciplinary works greater than the sum of their parts." Her multimedia opera Oceanic Verses perfectly reveals her sensibility as a composer, a creator of multimedia productions, and a wholeheartedly entrepreneurially artist. She commissioned the work through her non-profit company, VisionIntoArt (VIA), whose new label, VIA Records, will release Prestini's music and collaborator Ali Hossaini's visuals as a beautifully designed CD/DVD package on November 18.

In this concert, Carlo Grante focuses on 'the narrative, dancing, dreaming sound-world of Chopin, who virtually invented the Ballade as a musical genre and emancipated the Scherzo from its origins in dance.' Later concerts will feature the complete piano sonatas of Schumann (Monday, December 15, 2014) and the complete solo piano variations of Brahms (Tuesday, February 10, 2015).
