Dr. Michael Roizen, Chairman of the Wellness Institute at the Cleveland Clinic, NY Times Best-selling Author, and YOU Doc, appeared on the Dr. Oz show to help provide new information Americans need to start using right now to fight off disease, and livelonger, healthier lives.

Dr. Oz introduced Roizen as "the man who's on top of all this this new information, better than anybody else in the country." Roizen & Oz have a long collaboration, including appearing on the The Oprah Winfrey Show, writing the NY Times Best Selling Real YOU Series. Dr. Oz acknowledged Roizen as his best friendand the #1 authority on new trends in health.

Drs. Oz & Roizen's first recommendation was a new omega, Omega 7. Drs. Oz & Roizen told Americans to get 3-4 servings of Omega 7 every week because it has been shown to support heart healthy cholesterol, triglycerides, and even decrease inflammationand to get Omega 7 from macadamia nuts and anchovies.

Referencing a study in Japan, Dr. Roizen affirmed there was less diabetes, less omental ("bad belly fat") that causes inflammation, lower "lousy" LDL cholesterol, higher "healthy" HDL cholesterol, and decreased fatty livers. Roizen said that America has an epidemic of fatty liver disease, which he said is a "big deal" 1% fatty livers to 10% in 2000 to 35% in 2007. Fatty liver is caused by excessive fats in the blood building up in the liver. In addition to reducing the buildup of hepatic fat ("fatty liver"), Roizen also revealed that Omega 7 has been shown to stop plaque development.

"Stopping plaque development and the progression of atherosclerosis is the holy grail," he said recently in an interview. "It's not just cholesterol but also inflammation you have to watch out for. Elevated levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) indicate how inflamed your artery walls are. Reduce that inflammation, and you may lower your risk for heart disease, stroke, memory loss, wrinkles and even impotencewhich all stem from the same cause: atherosclerosis."

For the 300 million people who aren't flocking to the supermarkets to stock on up anchovies and macadamia nuts, it is possible to take a purified Omega 7 in the form of a supplement. With 51% palmitoleic acid, and none of the harmful palmitic acids Roizen warns us to avoid, Dr. Roizen advises Americans that the best way to choose an omega-7 supplement is by checking the product's nutritional information. "Look on the label or the website to see how much palmitic acid the product contains." You should only rely on supplements that say "Palmitic Acid-Free" and "Purified Omega-7".

Due to time constraints, Roizen was unable to mention the more current, yet to be published studies in humans that show similar results. "In a recent double-blind placebo controlled study, a daily intake of 210 mg of Omega 7 was better than placebo at managing cholesterol, triglycerides, and a healthy response to inflammation. While we can't reveal the exact details because they're yet to be published, I can tell you they're compelling," he affirmed recently.

"I take 420mg of Purified Omega 7 every day, and I recommend it to all my patients," he added.
