As we learned last week, this season's winner will earn a spot in the musical's ensemble. While some people, including @Actor_Friend, don't like this idea, remember, the last network show to give away roles on Broadway brought us Laura Osnes, so let's reserve judgment, just in case a reality show brings us more Broadway royalty this time. Tony Award winner Priscilla Lopez, who appeared in the legendary original cast of A Chorus Line and was also a replacement for the role of "Fastrada" in the original production of Pippin in 1973, will join the all-new Tony Award winning production of Pippin in the role of "Berthe" for a limited engagement, Tuesday, July 22 - Wednesday, August 27. Annie Potts will play her final performance in the role on Sunday, July 20. Tony Award winner John Rubinstein, who created the role of Pippin in the original 1972 production, will extend his run in the show as "Charles" through Sunday, August 17. Broadway's Holler If Ya Hear Me opened to mixed reviews last month, but lead producer Eric L. Gold won't let that affect the show's open-ended run at the Palace Theatre. He recently told Variety that he hopes to raise another $5 million to keep the new musical open until ticket sales improve. When asked how long the show will remain, Gold told Variety: 'It's week to week right now. It can't tell you if it'll be two weeks or two months. It's an expensive game, and I'm the guy carrying the load financially. I made a rookie mistake by underestimating how much capital was necessary, but I'm tenacious.' (more...)
