Imagination Stage's Pegasus Ensemble to Present THE LIGHT FROM THE INSIDE

By:

Next month, the graduating class of Imagination Stage's Pegasus Ensemble, a teen actor training program of 12 students with cognitive and/or development disabilities, will perform an original script, The Light From Inside. Based on a traditional tale from the Pacific Northwest, this play tells the story of how Light came to the world, and how each one of us can find the power of the Light within.

The Light from Inside runs in Imagination Stage's Christopher and Dana Reeve Studio Theatre February 27 and 28, 2015 at 7:30 p.m., and March 1, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301?280?1660.

"The Light from Inside tells a story that needs to be heard at a time when, in our world, it can sometimes be hard to see how one person can make a difference," says Director Diane Nutting, Director of Access and Inclusion at Imagination Stage. "The play particularly resonates with the Pegasus Ensemble in both how we have structured the work and in the diversity that is present within the cast. The infrastructures and conventions of the script are designed to utilize the strengths of each actor to help tell the story. Simultaneously, the characters within the play are learning how to identify their strengths and self-advocate for what they need from and what they can give to our world. That's a lesson that is important for any young person-regardless of their ability or background."

The Pegasus Ensemble is a conservatory style, two-year training program providing a rich opportunity to further develop theatre arts technique, culminating in a fully-realized production at the end of their final semester. Acceptance to the ensemble is through audition and interview only. The objective of the program is to foster and advance the theatre arts training of participating students, while providing a safe environment where their limits are pushed and they can work to achieve their full potential. Imagination Stage is committed to providing performing arts education to children of all abilities.

Working on this production along with Nutting as Director is a team of professional artists and designers, including Maria O'Connor (Assistant Director), Danielle Harris Elder (Scenic Designer), Zac Gilbert (Lighting Designer), Anna Klinger (Costume Designer), and Mehdi Raoufi (Sound Designer).

Raven is a trickster and Eagle is a hero, but who will succeed in getting the Light from the house of the Sky Chief and bringing it to the People of Darkness? Based on a traditional tale from the Pacific Northwest, The Light from Inside tells the story of how Light came to the world, and how each one of us can find the power of the Light within.
