Review: HAMLET at The Seattle Rep
by Jay Irwin - May 1, 2025

Dear Readers, I want to set the not-so-wayback machine to January 2024 when I got to see the first preview of Eddie Izzard doing her one person “Hamlet” in New York. Now I want to emphasize, this was the first preview of a brand-new show, and it was rough. This is to be expected. But afterward I was out on the street waiting for my cab when Izzard came out of the theater. Faced with the glory that is Eddie Izzard, and me being a big fan, I blurted out, “You were amazing!” Which she was, even in a rough show. She looked at me and said “That was a six. Come back later and you’ll see a ten!” Well, it’s taken a little while, but I finally got to come back now that she’s brought her tour of the show to Seattle at the Seattle Rep. And I’m happy to report she was right; we’re at a ten now.

Review: THE LION KING Reigns Supreme at Dr. Phillips Center For The Performing Arts
by Albert Gutierrez - Apr 25, 2025

Life's greatest tragedy is the passage of time. It is a lesson we all must learn eventually. Within the proverbial circle of life, there is only a beginning and an end that occurs in the immediacy of our own lifetime. Yet, the cyclical nature of birth, death, and rebirth ensures that our spirit will carry on in legacy rather than in flesh. If we are loved, then we are remembered. And if we are remembered, then we live forever. Disney’s The Lion King transposes this message from screen to stage through an international collaboration of talent that supercedes the strength of the 1994 animated film from which it came.

Review: HOTEL ELSINORE, Riverside Studios
by Cindy Marcolina - Apr 25, 2025

The grieving family of a prominent Shakespearean actor gathers at the location where he was due to perform before his sudden demise. The late Henry Elder, however, wasn’t willing to let anything get between him and the celebrations for his career-defining one-man show. Hamlet at the Elsinore Shakespeare Festival (a yearly event that really takes place in the Danish town of Helsingør - aka Elsinore in English) has to go on with or without him. Locked in a hotel room in the middle of the night, the Elders rehearse.

Review: THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD at ALLEYWAY THEATRE
by Michael Rabice - Apr 17, 2025

That brilliant murder mystery author Agatha Christie is universally praised and beloved, but one of her first successes is not  well known to American readers. Happily the the stage adaptation by Heidi Armbruster of  that early work, THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD, now playing at Buffalo's Alleyway Theatre ,will change that for Western New York audiences.
