Book-It Repertory Theatre's landmark 30th season continues with The Turn of the Screw, adapted from the 1898 horror novella by Henry James. Adapted by Rachel Atkins and directed by Carol Roscoe, this production will dive into the darkest corners of James's most famous and haunting story, asking audiences to question who they trust and whose version of events they believe. This will be Book-It's first production under the leadership team of current Artistic Director Jane Jones and Incoming Artistic Director Gus Menary. The Turn of the Screw plays February 12 a?" March 8, 2020 (Opening/Press Night on Saturday, February 15) at The Center Theatre. 

Madison Lyric Stage, a professional theater company serving the Connecticut Shoreline, has announced its 2020 mainstage season: a double bill of Puccini's Suor Angelica and Schoenberg's Erwartung in April; the landmark Mart Crowley play The Boys in the Band in July; and, for Halloween, the Stephen Sondheim/Hugh Wheeler musical masterpiece Sweeney Todd. All three productions will be directed by Marc Deaton.

'The Turn of the Screw' is a provocative tale of suspense, horror and repressed sexuality. A young governess journeys to a lonely English manor house to care for two recently orphaned children. Before long, she learns of the dark history and unspeakable secrets that haunt this isolated estate. She soon begins to feel the presence of evil specters, whom she believes are tormenting the children in her care. At the same time, she herself is tortured by a frightening question: are the ghosts real or are they the product of her own fevered imagination?

Book-It Repertory Theatre has announced Gus Menary as its Incoming Artistic Director. Menary comes to Book-It from Chicago where he was Artistic Director of Jackalope Theatre. Over the next eight months, he will work closely with Co-Founding Artistic Directors Jane Jones and Myra Platt. As Jones remains the artistic leader of the company until August 2020, she will be able to introduce Menary to Book-It and the Seattle community. He will succeed Jones and Platt in the 2020-2021 season.

The Filigree Theatre, the Austin-based, women-led, independent theatre company announces their Season Three Winter Production: 'The Turn of the Screw,' by Jeffrey Hatcher, set to run from Jan. 30 - Feb. 9, 2020 at Romy Suskin Photography Studio (2617 S. First St., Austin, Texas 78704), Thursdays through Sundays at 8 p.m. This production will be directed by The Filigree Theatre Founding Artistic Director, Elizabeth V. Newman and will star Austin actors James Lindsley and Paulina Fricke-Fox. Tickets for this production will be available for purchase Jan. 1 2020 on The Filigree Theatre website and directly via Eventbrite. The audience is invited to join the director, cast and crew for complimentary cookies and champagne following each performance.

Upon entering the space the audience is immediately surrounded by the dwellings of a castle. The beautiful set design by Tom Hansen lent itself well to this harkened tale of Christmas in England. Henry II, King of England and his ward Alais are seen talking about their love and the King donning a Blood Red Crown that has been exquisitely crafted to the finest detail. Soon we meet the three sons of King Henry, Richard Lionheart, John and Geoffrey. All three are bastards in the eyes of King Henry and all three feel their stake at the Crown is higher, and more deserving than the others. Whether written into the script or a Directors choice, the use of Christmas carols, both modern and Baroque was a nice touch and lent itself well to the story and made scene changes seamless. A nice touch from the set design was having the pieces of the King's table fly in from up above and added nicely to the set. The texture of having the candles on every inch of the set, gave the castle a warm feeling and made it also feel very elegant and regal.

Flat Rock Playhouse welcomes Fall and all its seasonal delights with The Turn of the Screw, an adaptation of the classic 1898 horror novella by Henry James. The Turn of the Screw occurs in Victorian England on a remote country estate when a new governess arrives and assumes care for two orphaned children at the request of their mysterious uncle. While the home and children initially seem picturesque, the governess soon begins to question if there might be more figures wandering around the estate than just the children. Running October 24th - November 2nd, The Turn of the Screw, guarantees exciting thrills and lively debate.

Dead Letter Perfect today announces the world première of Stray Dogs. Robin Herford directs Olivia Olsen (Anna Akhmatova), Ben Porter (Isaiah Berlin) and Ian Redford (Joseph Stalin). The production opens at Park Theatre on Friday 15 November, with previews from 13 November, and runs until 7 December.

Upon entering the theatre the audience is immediately incapsulated in a world of Gothic Noir. Like something bursting out of a?oeMidnight in the Garden of Good and Evila?? and blended well with real water, the stage was set and the mood was placed for an eerie and beautiful trip. Over the next enthralling 75 minutes two actors of supreme grandiose proportions took the audience on an unforgettable trip across the pond to Essex, and the opening night audience in mere sell out lingered on every word. Even a chill in the air lent itself to the spooky good time set before us. A true tour-de-force helmed exceptionally well by Director Timothy Saunders, two characters simply named a?oeMana?? and a?oeWomana?? took our breath away and left a chill down our spine that still resonates with me days later.

On Site Opera, an organization dedicated to presenting site-specific opera productions in non-traditional venues throughout New York City, announces its dynamic 2019-2020 season. As the company has grown in recent years, they have established a season that includes three core mainstage productions, The Turn of the Screw, October 25-27, Amahl and the Night Visitors, December 4-8, and Das Barbecu, January 26-February 11, along with additional partnerships and events beyond the boundaries of the New York City boroughs in summer of  2020.
