When Judy Garland stepped out onto the stage at Carnegie Hall on April 23, 1961, the raucous standing ovation that greeted her was just the start of what has been called the greatest night in showbusiness history. Award-winning actress/singer Jody Briskey will channel Garland and recreate that night's iconic performance in Garland in Word and Song at the Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park. BWW Review: Learn to See 'The Beauty Underneath' in LOVE NEVER DIES at the Benedum

Ten years after the epic conclusion of The Phantom of the Opera, we find ourselves on the shores of the Atlantic- an ocean away from the Paris Opera House where years prior Christine, Raoul, and the Phantom would meet for an explosive encounter in the lair. Christine and Raoul would flee together, leaving the Phantom to the mercy of the encroaching mob. It is the most recognizable love triangle in musical theatre- one that ends in the questionable disappearance of the Phantom. But Andrew Lloyd Weber could not let the Phantom's love and story end there; thus gives us the basis for the sequel Love Never Dies. (more...)

Sydney Welcomes THE WIZARD OF OZ with Star-Studded Premiere

The world's favourite musical, The Wizard of Oz, has finally arrived in Sydney and will celebrate with a star-studded premiere at the Capitol Theatre tomorrow night. Producers John Frost and Suzanne Jones are thrilled Sydney audiences will finally experience the 2011 London Palladium production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Wizard of Oz. For the 84th Kritzerland show, they have their annual all-young people show, one of our favorites to do every year. From the very beginning of Kritzerland shows back in 2010 they've always featured young performers in our shows - in fact, they were the first cabaret show to ever do so and opened those doors. They love young performers - their energy and joy and spirit - and we've had some brilliant ones over these eight years. But this is the night that they all get to shine on their own. Erte was nicknamed 'the father of Art Deco', a soubriquet that he was not comfortable with but it unfortunately stuck. He was born into Russian aristocracy and his family tree can be traced back to the Tartar kahns. He was greatly influenced by books on Persian and Indian miniatures in his father's library and by his beloved Greek vases that he studied during frequent trips as a boy to the Hermitage Museum. Duncan Alanson Spencer (1911-1999), the legendary Scenic Artist behind some of Hollywood's greatest films, will be honored by the Art Directors Guild Gallery 800 (ADG, IATSE Local 800) in a special exhibit entitled The Golden Brush: A Tribute to Duncan Alanson Spencer. Spencer's career spanned over 38 years and over 400 movies including The Wizard of Oz, White Christmas, Meet Me in St. Louis and Ziegfeld Follies.
