Ben Fankhauser, the Original “Davey” in Disney's Newsies on Broadway, came to see Disney's Newsies at Arena Stage, running until December 29.

Arena Stage, accompanied by some of the cast from Disney's Newsies, as well as the Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig, volunteered at the USO (United Service Organization).

A strong cast presents an excellent Unicorn production of a very new play, Bernhardt/Hamlet, A Woman Unbounda by Theresa Rebeck. Bernhardt/Hamlet is a smart, comedic, reasonably accurate portrait of a middle-aged, financially strapped, giant of the nineteenth century French stage still with her powers intact, but with a paucity of mountains she still desires to climb.

Despite being set in 1899, NEWSIES feels marvelously modern. It is sharp, slick, and explosive. Even if, like me, you saw the bright new production of NEWSIES on Broadway in 2012, the Arena Stage setting is instantly memorable. Being emerged in the theater-in-the-round is like the difference between seeing a beloved film on the big screen and walking into the middle of the action in the Disney theme parks.

In the summer of 1899, the newsboys of New York City took on two of the most powerful men in the country — Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst — and won. Inspired by true events, the Broadway smash hit is a testament to the power of standing up and speaking out. The Tony Award-winning musical features fan-favorites like “Carrying the Banner,” “King of New York” and “Seize the Day.” Newsies is “a winning, high-energy musical” (Entertainment Weekly) just in time for the holidays and perfect for the whole family.

The Tony Award-winning musical, Disney's Newsies, will receive an additional six performances during its run at Arena Stage. Under the direction of Molly Smith, choreography by Parker Esse and music direction by Laura Bergquist, the production now runs through December 29, 2019 in the iconic in-the-round Fichandler Stage.

Gingold Theatrical Group (David Staller, Artistic Director) will continue the 14th Season of Project Shaw, Art as Activism: A Theatrical Survival Guide, a special series of evenings of plays that embrace human rights and free speech. All of GTG's programming, inspired by the works of George Bernard Shaw, are designed to provoke peaceful discussion and activism.

Broadway Training Center of Westchester (BTC), one of the region's premier performing arts schools, will present Disney's “NEWSIES” November 22 through November 24 at the Irvington Theater (formerly Irvington Town Hall Theater) in Irvington, N.Y. The show will feature BTC's award-winning junior and senior ensembles consisting of students (grades 4-12) from throughout Westchester and Rockland counties and the Bronx.

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, a Play with Music will make its New York City Debut in December 2019 with twelve performances across four city landmarks after last year's successful run in Boston. Critically-acclaimed Hollywood theatre company The New American Theatre (NAT) will present Anton Chekhov's masterpiece Uncle Vanya, directed by Artistic Director Jack Stehlin, who recently was honored along with managing director/producer Jeannine Wisnosky Stehlin with a career achievement award from Stage Raw. Subtitled 'Scenes from a Country Life in Four Acts,' Uncle Vanya is adapted by the company from a translation by Constance Garnett. Opening weekend begins Friday November 1 at 8pm.

This was a first, where uneducated street kids stood up to the big suits and won. In 1992 Disney created the movie Newsies that went on to become a popular hit. In 2012 Harvey Fierstein, Alan Menken and Jack Feldman came to Broadway with a musical show they created based on the film. Newsies is currently onstage at Candlelight Pavilion. Skylight Music Theatre today announced that due to overwhelming demand, an additional week of performances has been added to Skylight's holiday show, Disney's Newsies. This triumphant Broadway blockbuster opens Friday, November 15 and runs through Sunday, December 29, 2019 with special early bird and family-friendly performance times, as well as a sensory-friendly performance. Based on Disney's first live-action musical movie from 1992, this stage adaptation has won two Tony Awards. The show has music by Disney's beloved Alan Menken with lyrics by Jack Feldman. The book was written by Harvey Fierstein and based on the film's screenplay by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White.
