A local theater company approached director Michael Carrasco earlier this year and asked him to direct a musical. He said he would be glad to as long as the production was "Newsies." Since that wasn't the play they had in mind, he passed-and he's glad he did.

Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at Miami Dade College (MDC) will present Where the Oceans Meet, an exhibition of modern and contemporary art that resonates with the pioneering thought of two Caribbean writers, Lydia Cabrera and Edouard Glissant. The international group of thirty-eight artists and collectives in the exhibition consider notions of shifting and porous borders-geographic, national, cultural, social, racial, ethnic, and linguistic-and how crossing borders has shaped our world. The exhibition is curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Asad Raza, Gabriela Rangel, and Rina Carvajal. Where the Oceans Meet will be on view from May 26 to September 29, 2019.

Based on the true story of the newboys strike of 1899 and the Disney film of the same name, NEWSIES tells the story of the bloodline of New York, the newsies. Jack Kelly is the boldly charismatic leader of the group, but he is left dreaming about traveling out of the big city. Joseph Pulitzer owns The World, in an attempt to increase circulation, he raises the price of newspapers at the expense of the newsies. Jack, with the help of newcomer Davey and his little brother Les, rallies the boys to form their own union and strike against the most powerful man in the city, Pulitzer himself. With the help of the beautiful young journalist Kathrine Plumber and the boystorious personality of New York, Miss Meda Larkin, the newsboys shut down the city. Jack learns where his he belongs and the rest of New York learns the power of the 'little guys'.

Each year, Sierra Madre Playhouse presents a show especially for young audiences. In 2019, the show is Stuart Little, innovatively staged with puppets, projections and original music. Performances for school field trips start on March 11 with over 3000 tickets sold, but the Playhouse will present a limited number of performances to the general public as well, with an official public opening on March 16. The play is ideal for audience members aged 4 to 10, but their entire families can enjoy it as well.

Vilna, a new play by Ira Fuchs directed by Joseph Discher, will begin its limited Off-Broadway World Premiere engagement at the Theatre at St. Clement's (423 West 46th Street, between Ninth & Tenth Avenues) tonight Monday March 11th. Opening Night is set for Wednesday March 20th (7pm). This limited Off-Broadway engagement will continue through Sunday April 14th only.
