BWW Jr: Mama Will Decide: Knowing What's Appropriate
by Remy Holzer - Jan 7, 2019

'How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman...' So begins, as we all know, a musical that has, perhaps unexpectedly, enjoyed more popularity among children than any other in recent history. And yet, even in its first moments, the show confronts children with words they (especially younger children) may not have heard before and may not understand. When a group of small children in our elementary school talent show performed this song, they sang 'bastard' but labeled Hamilton the son of 'a girl and a Scotsman.' I don't know what parental or directorial input led to this alteration, but I do wonder what the children thought about it, both the original and the substitute lyric. (more...)

BWW Interview: BOOK OF MORMON Cast Member Corey Jones
by Christina Hoth - Jan 22, 2019

I believe that truly the most talented people in the arts are also some of the most humble. One of my greatest joys as an arts critic is having a personal conversation with an individual artist or a member of a production team and realizing I'd like to just hang out with them on a basic human level-grab a whiskey and shoot the breeze, maybe go bowling! On Saturday morning I had one of these very relaxed encounters in an interview with Corey Jones. Mr. Jones is currently eclipsing his year anniversary with the U.S. Tour of "Book of Mormon" as the role of The General. Corey was kind enough to take my call at the "early actor's hour" (his words) of 11:30am to talk about coming back to Texas, the success of this show, and special skills actors should consider listing on their resumes... BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON preaches at Broadway At The Hobby Center
by Brett Cullum - Jan 17, 2019

It is perversely funny, profane at many points, but in the end shows huge heart and calls for the virtue of love and service to your fellow man. It's not exactly a family-friendly show, but it is one your 16 year-old son would prefer to see over THE SOUND OF MUSIC. (more...)

by Brett Burger - Jan 16, 2019

Last year I posted an article on my website about the top 10 shows I was the most excited for that would be in the Twin Cities across the 2018-2019 season. Some of them premiered in 2018 like Mamma Mia at the Ordway and, of course, the traveling production of Hamilton. However, as I look back at the least, a large majority of them are in 2019 and I'm still just as excited to see these productions as I was last year when I posted about them. Below are 9 shows that I can't wait to see in 2019! (more...)
