by Paula Makar - Sep 2, 2025
What did our critic Something Rotten! is a musical’s musical! There’s something here for everyone here - pure entertainment for folks who just want to be entertained, and, for the seasoned musical theatre nerd, infinite musical theatre references, from obvious to obscure, that make the show even that much more fun. If you’re a Shakespeare fan, this is a thouroughly modern look into what the Renaissance fans really thought about the Bard!hink of SOMETHING ROTTEN at Music Theatre Wichita At Century II Concert Hall?
Review: WAITRESS at Music Theatre Wichita At Century II Concert Hall
by Paula Makar - Jul 7, 2025
It’s so satisfying to see a musical that resonates emotionally with an audience, and Waitress is one of those musicals. From the writing to the performance, the entire audience was held rapt for the entire 2 1/2 hours, staying right with the performers as they traversed this well told story. There were gasps, applause, and exclamations of support, and a well deserved standing ovation at the end of it all. MTWichita told this story exceedingly well.
Interview: Patrick Oliver Jones of BEETLEJUICE at Century II Concert Hall
by Paula Makar - Apr 2, 2025
I had the privilege of interviewing Patrick Oliver Jones, who plays Otho Fenlock, Delia Deetz’ closest friend and Interior Designer who helps her remodel her new home. Patrick also has several ensemble tracks, and understudies the roles of Charles and Maxie Dean. His many stage credits include the original cast of First Wives Club in Chicago, and the North American tours of The Addams Family and Evita. His television credits include co-starring roles on Blue Bloods and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Patrick is also the award-winning podcast producer and host of Why I’ll Never Make It and Closing Night.

Review: MATILDA THE MUSICAL at Music Theatre Of Wichita
by Paula Makar - Aug 4, 2024
On July 31, 2024, I had the privilege of seeing an incredibly scintillating production of MatildaThe Musical, presented by Music Theatre Wichita in the Century II Concert Hall. I’m ashamed to say I knew next to nothing about the book, but I have seen myriad clips of the musical numbers.
Review: DISNEY'S FROZEN at Music Theatre Of Wichita At Century II Concert Hall
by Paula Makar - Jul 11, 2024
In continuing with MTWichita’s 2024 Season Theme “The Year of the Woman,” I had the privilege of seeing Disney’s Frozen on the Century II Concert Hall Stage. MTWichita is one of the first indoor regional theatres to produce Disney’s Frozen after the show closed on Broadway. This can be a challenge because the sets and costumes cannot look the same as the original Broadway production, so all the design elements, including choreography, need to be reimagined. The MTWichita team exceeds expectations here, creating some magnificent, otherworldly realms for the denizens of Arendelle to inhabit. You do not want to miss this show, which runs until July 14th.
Review: 9 TO 5 at Music Theatre of Wichita at Century II Concert Hall
by Paula Makar - Jun 16, 2024
What did our critic think of 9 TO 5 at Music Theatre Of Wichita At Century II Concert Hall?9 to 5 is one of my favorite shows - it’s entertaining, it’s full of comedic moments, and it has some great lessons in self love, trusting your instincts, and believing in yourself. It shows us not only how far we have come in terms of respecting women’s rights, but also shows us how much more needs to be done in terms of equal rights for not only women, but for all minority groups.
Review: GYPSY: A MUSICAL FABLE at Music Theatre Wichita At Century II Concert Hall
by Paula Makar - Jun 5, 2024
What did our critic think of GYPSY: A MUSICAL FABLE at Music Theatre Wichita At Century II Concert Hall? There is a reason the musical Gypsy: A Musical Fable is a Golden Age classic. The text, suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee and written by Authur Laurents, is economical and succinct. Jule Styne’s music varies from catchy tunes to lush, foreboding orchestral maneuvers, and Sondheim’s nascent lyrics are simple and accessible, yet cut to the core of each scene’s objective.
