For almost a decade now, MSMT, together with the Brunswick downtown Association’s Music on the Mall, has presented, on the town green, a large outdoor concert free for the citizens of Brunswick, greater Maine and beyond. This MSMT summer event traditionally draws the largest crowd in the history of the series, and summer 2026 was no exception with more than 2500 people filling the great lawn. With sunshine in abundance, picnic suppers and music in the air, it proved to be an idyllic  evening.

The musical numbers overall are so well executed it would be unfair to single out any over the rest. One could almost see the high-quality performance throughout this production as an issue. Although, the premise suggests the cast, with the exception of one or two individuals, are all young and inexperienced, most of them come across as well seasoned professionals that certainly deliver the goods.

Today’s subject Peggy McKowen is currently living her theatre life as the Artistic Director for one of the most important theatre festivals for new plays in the country Contemporary American Theatre Festival (CATF). Since The Lost Boys took Broadway by storm this spring, there has been much chatter about the “vampire curse” on Broadway being lifted. Dance of the Vampires (2002), Dracula (2004), and Lestat (2006) each received attention in their own right, but they also received attention as a group, since it was remarkable that they came along in such quick succession. But the early 21st century wasn’t the first time vampires thirsted on Broadway. The play adaptation of Dracula was a hit all the way back in 1927 and an even bigger hit in a 1977 revival. And there have been vampires lurking in the theatre district in all sorts of other projects too…
