THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME Comes to The Moonlight

Moonlight Stage Productions presents THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, the epic musical retelling of Victor Hugo's novel about love, passion, and hope. Performances are August 15 through September 1 at 8:00 p.m. at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. The third production of Moonlight's 38th summer season will feature a company of nearly 60 with actors, an onstage choir, and live orchestra in the pit making for an emotionally charged theatre experience. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced the selection of four Honorees who will receive the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements, and a special Honors distinction for a work of art and its co-creators. Recipients to be honored at the 41st annual national celebration of the arts are: singer and actress Cher, composer and pianist Philip Glass, Country music entertainer Reba McEntire, and jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter. This year, the co-creators of Hamilton-writer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, and music director Alex Lacamoire-will receive a unique Kennedy Center Honors as trailblazing creators of a transformative work that defies category. Florida Studio Theatre Announces New Summer Play Reading Workshops

Following a well-received Sarasota Festival of New Plays this past spring, Florida Studio Theatre (FST) announces an addition to its New Play Development program. Three new works will be staged throughout the month of August featuring some of the latest work by George Brant, Barry Harman and Keith Herrmann, and Sandy Rustin. "Good comedies with exciting stories are hard to find and we have found three well-crafted tales from various eras, points of view, and comedic angles," shared FST Associate Artist Catherine Randazzo. Talkbacks will follow each reading, giving audiences the chance to engage with each piece more deeply, while also giving playwrights valuable feedback. These readings are free and open to the public, though reservations are required. (more...)

Godspell needs little introduction, but when it was first produced on Broadway in 1971, it was groundbreaking in it's stage treatment of the historical storytelling of the life of Jesus Christ. Based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, it deals with the last days of Jesus and includes dramatized versions of several well-known parables - and yet, it is something more - a religious experience, a demonstration of joy, and a celebration of humanity. PIPPIN Comes to Lakewood Theatre Company

Lakewood Theatre Company continues its 66th season with the extraordinarily timeless tale of Pippin from composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell). Directed by Paul Angelo with musical direction by Valery Saul and choreography by Erin Shannon, this musical questions the choices we make in life that lead us to happiness. Pippin first premiered on Broadway in 1972, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Roger O. Hirson. The original production featured choreography and direction by Bob Fosse, who won Tony awards for both categories in 1973. Lakewood Theatre Company's production opens September 7 and runs through October 14, 2018 on the Headlee Mainstage at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego. (more...)
