Coronado Playhouse presents Little Shop of Horrors, opening Friday September 8th running until Sunday, October 15th, 2017 at Coronado Playhouse. Little Shop of Horrors is an horticultural horror story: sci-fi spoof musical with a hilarious and fearsome plot and a collection of great songs. Seymour Krelborn, the assistant at Mushnik's Flower Shop in downtrodden Skid Row, becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers a strange and exotic plant. He names it Audrey Two in order to impress glamorous Audrey, the colleague he's secretly in love with. Audrey Two quickly starts to wilt, putting Seymour's job and dream future with Audrey at risk. Accidentally pricking his finger, Seymour discovers Audrey Two needs a little more than plant food to thrive. The plant grows into a bad-tempered, R&B-singing carnivore whose voracious appetite becomes increasingly difficult to satisfy.  (more...)

Review: Torrance Theatre Company's SISTER ACT is a Sparkling Musical Tribute to the Universal Power of Friendship

Each summer, the Torrance Theatre Company opens its season with a musical production at the James Armstrong Theatre. This year, it's SISTER ACT, the feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg as disco diva Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses a murder and is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be a found: a convent! Featuring original music by Tony (and eight-time Oscar) winner Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
