Vision Productions has announced the limited engagement of the Midwest premiere of The Art of Sisters, adapted and directed by Vision Productions Artistic Director Miriam Canfield, March 4 - 7 in the library at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 31st St. Opening/press night is Wednesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. with additional performances Thursday, March 5 and Friday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 7 at 3 and 7:30 p.m. The running time is 80 minutes with no intermission. Queer|Art, New York City's home for the creative and professional development of LGBTQ+ artists, is pleased to announce the winner of the second annual Eva Yaa Asantewaa Grant For Queer Women(+) Dance Artists, Hollerin Space. Philadelphia-based duo Hollerin Space will receive a $10,000 cash grant to support the development of Hold On, a new work that researches algorithms of black assembly and theories and practices of being free. This particular work traces black gathering and migrations in the broad period between 1919 and into some optimistic future. Development of this work will include study and enactment of the Juneteenth tradition of call, drum & step as part of the group's training for the premiere of an ensemble production set for 2020 in Philadelphia. The ensemble will convene for 10 workshops over a 9 month period, centering research and world building, at House of Black Infinity located in Philadelphia.

The Jewish Museum and Film at Lincoln Center will present the 29th annual New York Jewish Film Festival (NYJFF), January 15a?"28, 2020. Among the oldest and most influential Jewish film festivals worldwide, NYJFF each year presents the finest documentary, narrative, and short films from around the world that explore the Jewish experience. The Des Moines Community Playhouse celebrated a century of community theatre on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, with the Ultimate Cast Party and on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, with a gala dinner followed by a musical revue. More than 500 people participated in each night's activities.

The 40th Anniversary of the monumental theme sculpture that welcomes patrons to La Mirada Theatre For The Performing Arts  will be celebrated at a re-dedication ceremony this Saturday, November 2nd at 4:45 PM at the theatre (14900 La Mirada Blvd., La Mirada).  Created by the internationally acclaimed artist Joseph L. Young, the sculpture - entitled 'Canto 79' (or 'Song of 79') - remains a stunning example of civic art.  The fascinating story of its creation and Young's unique vision will be the focus of guest speakers Daniel Paul, the notable architectural historian, and the sculptor's daughters, Cecily and Leslie Young.  Attendees will receive a free exclusive souvenir program filled with Young's conceptual sketches, rare pictures of the sculpture during its fabrication, and coverage of its unveiling in 1979.

During its 50th anniversary season of milestones, CMS begins November with the world premiere of John Corigliano's The Food of Love for Oboe and Celloa?"one of several trailblazing composers highlighted in this concert, including John Cage, Elliott Carter, and Ruth Crawford Seegera?"whose works from the past century have set the stage for composers today (Nov. 7). The piece was commissioned by Corigliano's friends Michèle and Larry Corash for their 50th wedding anniversary. The same day, a free master class will be given by soprano Tony Arnold, who performs in Berg's Lyric Suite for String Quartet the following night, with the Schumann Quartet. The work's hidden musical and numerical codes, and a vocal part, revealed Berg's secret love affair with a married woman (Nov. 8).
