The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra announced the November 9 release of its latest album, American Originals: 1918, under the direction of Pops Conductor John Morris Russell. The recording is inspired by America's cultural awakening at the end of the First World War one hundred years ago and the distinctly American musical styles that reflect the country's diversity. This album celebrates and reimagines popular songs of this era that remain fresh and relevant today with acclaimed musical collaborators including Rhiannon Giddens, Steep Canyon Rangers and Pokey LaFarge. The 95th Cincinnati Pops album was recorded live at Cincinnati Music Hall November 10- 12, 2017, and is being released on the Orchestra's label, Fanfare Cincinnati.

Opening on November 9, Hart House Theatre presents a retelling of classic tale by Canadian icon Margaret Atwood, The Penelopiad. Directed by a vigorous new talent, Michelle Langille, featuring a lead performance by powerhouse actor Amanda Cordner, and supported by an all-female ensemble of emergent talent, The Penelopiad is sure to be an empowering tour de force.

Join the Des Moines Community Playhouse on Nov. 16, 2018, for Jack and the Beanstalk. This story is part of the 2018-19 season of Friday Funday, a creative participatory story theatre program for children ages 4-6. Performances are at the Playhouse, Friday, Nov. 16, at 9:30 AM, 10:45 AM, and 1:30 PM. Shows are 45 minutes in length. The performance at 10:45 AM will have audio description provided by IRIS. For 33 seasons, Carnegie Hall's Link Up music education program has facilitated deeper connections between the concert hall and the classroom through an instrument-focused curriculum that culminates with students performing with a professional orchestra from their seats. The nearly 15,000 New York City-area students in grades 3-5 who participate in this program will travel to Carnegie Hall take part in one of six concerts in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage today, May 22, Wednesday, May 23, and Thursday, May 24.

It was confirmed this week that Stephen Schwartz, composer/lyricist of WICKED, has added music to his personal appearance at the annual OZ-Stravaganza! WIZARD OF OZ Festival in Chittenango, NY, on Saturday, June 2nd. His on-stage, free-to-the-public interview was announced earlier this month, but Mr. Schwartz has now offered to perform songs from the score of WICKED during that presentation. Schwartz, a three-time 'Oscar' and four-time 'Grammy' Award winner, will appear as the headliner of the 6:30 p.m. event at Chittenango High School, 150 Genesee Street. (Doors open at 6:15.)

Spanning 1915 to 1919, set against the backdrop of Boston's Italian North End Immigrants, MOLASSES IN JANUARY is a charming historical fiction musical that tells the story of Anna, a single mother doing her best to raise her children in a world caught up in the turmoil of the first World War. As rumors grow about the potential construction of an enormous molasses tank that will be used to make liquor and gun powder for the war, so do the hopes for potential prosperity. But suddenly on an unusually warm January day, the tank bursts and two million gallons of molasses come crashing down around Anna and her family discovers that life can change in a moment. The music of MOLASSES IN JANUARY is performed in the traditional style of the Great American Song Book, similar to Fiddler on the Roof and Gypsy.

Ahead of their May/June tour dates in New York and Europe, Deerhunter have announced details of an exclusive tour-only release. The Double Dream Of Spring was recorded at Bradford Cox's home in Atlanta, Georgia with the band, and continues a tradition of unique cassette releases which includes On Platts Eyott Island (2008) and Rainwater Cassette Exchange (2009). Limited to 300 copies, the tape will only be available to purchase exclusively on forthcoming Deerhunter summer tour dates, beginning with their intimate sold-out show in Brooklyn's Elsewhere on May 15th.
