A whole new world of Disney will be on full display this Spring as The Soraya presents a trio of family-friendly favorites beginning with Disney in Concert: Aladdin, 30th Anniversary on Sat, Mar 25 at 3pm. The film's composer, Alan Menken, takes the stage the following weekend and is then followed by two performances by multiple award-winning actress and singer Lea Salonga—the original voice of Aladdin's Princess Jasmine.

The west coast premiere of playwright Anna Deavere Smith’s expanded solo show Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 opens March 15, 2023, at the Mark Taper Forum (with previews beginning March 8th). Gregg T. Daniel directs the cast of Hugo Armstrong, Lovensky Jean-Baptiste, Lisa Reneé Pitts, Jeanne Sakata and Sabina Zúñiga Varela performing the 30-40 characters of the play that Anna originally performed all on her own. With the new year just around the corner, many take time during the holiday season to reflect upon this past year as it comes to a close. Although 2021 has been challenging, it becomes clear that there is so much to be grateful for from vaccines to new movie musicals. While Broadway theaters began to open their doors, several streaming services opened their platforms to producing movie musicals. Unlike most years where few if any Broadway musicals were adapted into movies, 2021 was a year like no other with over ten musicals being created for the screen or being adapted from the stage to the screen. In celebration of the past year, here is a list of the best movie musicals from 2021 and where to watch them.

P3 Theatre to present My (Unauthorized) Hallmark Movie Musical, an innovative live one-woman show, written and performed by Eloise Coopersmith who is supported by a cast of eight characters in her imagination via multimedia.  Audiences will escape into her Hallmark movie fantasy, where men and women find courage and acceptance to speak their own voices without judgment.  T

 Popular pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk is branching out at Limelight Theatre, ready to provide plenty of laughs, dance and song. Written by Ben Crocker and directed by Gwen Browning, the story follows Jack who is in love with Princess Demelza – but the giant who lives in the clouds demands increased taxes and the princess’ hand in marriage.  

Comedian/actress Sandra Bernhard will be enthralling her adoring audience with A DECADE OF MADNESS AND MAYHEM, a night of her standup comedy, October 8, 2021 at The Wallis. Renown for her outspokenness and outrageousness, the always very candid Sandra will speak her witty mind in her usual laughs-inducing act that only Sandra Bernhard can do. Had the chance to delve a little into Sandra’s always deliberating psyche.

Pregones/PRTT announces SolFest: A Latinx Theater Festival in partnership with The Sol Project and North Star Projects and in collaboration with Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre and La Gente: The Latinx Theatre Design Network.

Galley Zahal, one of the biggest radio stations in Israel, will broadcast one hour dedicated only to the musicals of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!
