Fred Johanson and Julian Capolei Join the Cast of Disney's ALADDIN

As it prepares to celebrate its second birthday in the West End, Disney's Aladdin announces today that fourteen new cast members will be joining the company. Matthew Croke will continue to star in the title role, having joined the company in June 2017, opposite original London cast members Jade Ewen (Jasmine) and Trevor Dion Nicholas (Genie). New cast members include Fred Johanson as Jafar and Julian Capolei as Omar. Original cast member Jermaine Woods will play Iago, having previously covered the role. (more...)

110 years after the inauguration of the current building of the Teatro Colon, the opera with which its curtain ran for the first time was re-released: Aida. The emblematic title of the great Giuseppe Verdi, in which he opts for all his experience in operatic matters, tells the story of the Ethiopian slave that Radames, the captain of Pharaoh's guard, falls in love with. Torn between his loyalty to the country and the dictates of his heart, he must also deal with the desire of Amneris, the daughter of Pharaoh, who professes an unrequited love. The setting of the remembered Roberto Oswald will be the setting of this great show that will dazzle for its visual display and the power of music. (more...)

When Houston Grand Opera (HGO) opened its first season in Houston's new opera house at the Wortham Theater Center in 1987, world-renowned tenor Placido Domingo starred in Verdi's Aida. Now, just over 30 years later, Domingo will again take the Wortham stage on September 26 for HGO and Placido-Coming Home!, a gala evening celebrating the company's return to its creative home after a year of displacement following Hurricane Harvey. Joined by beloved Houston soprano Ana Maria Martinez and the HGO Orchestra conducted by HGO Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers, Domingo will perform an evening of operatic and popular musical favorites. John Kander and Fred Ebb's final musical collaboration premiered on Broadway in 2010 and was heralded as 'an absolute marvel' by The Associated Press. The Scottsboro Boys is centered around nine young African-American teenagers who were ripped off a train in 1931, falsely accused of a crime, hastily tried and sentenced to death in an outrageous disregard of due process. WICKED Announces $25 Lottery Seats

A day-of-performance lottery for a limited number of orchestra seats will be held for WICKED, which is returning to Omaha's Orpheum Theater with performances from May 16 to June 3, 2018. Two and one-half hours prior to each performance, people who present themselves at the Orpheum Theater box office will have their names placed in a lottery drum; thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for a limited number of orchestra seats at $25 each, cash only. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person. Lottery participants must have a valid photo ID when submitting their entry form and, if chosen, when purchasing tickets. (more...)
