On Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 7:30pm, Bang on a Can presents the 2022 Bang on a Can People's Commissioning Fund concert, one of the most anticipated and reliable launching pads for composers in New York and beyond. The performance is co-presented by Kaufman Music Center as part of the annual Ecstatic Music Series at Merkin Hall (Kaufman Music Center, 129 W. 67th St.) and is a New Sounds Live co-presentation with host John Schaefer.

On A Clear Day You Can See Forever was written for Broadway and adapted into a 1970s film starring Barbra Streisand. This all-new take is adapted from Alan Jay Lerner’s original by Jay James-Moody (The Dismissal, Herringbone) who teams up with the legendary Kelley Abbey to co-direct this hilarious and heart-warming comedy of errors, exploring modern themes of sexuality, gender, and ethics in a fast-paced, joyous and musical delight featuring all-new arrangements of Lerner and Burton Lane’s wonderful songs. 

Disney has released the music video for 'What Else Can I Do?' from Encanto. Diane Guerrero and Stephanie Beatriz voice the characters in the clip from the high-charting track from Lin-Manuel Miranda's new soundtrack. It is such an exciting time with Broadway reopened. I spent a day recently in New York City and the hustle and bustle of the theatre district reminded me of why I love the city and Broadway in particular. I have seen a measly 73 shows on Broadway or ones that are part of a Broadway tour and I have ranked them all in the order that I love/like them. One of those shows that has remained in the top 10 since I first witnessed its magical artistry is “Come From Away.” So, I jumped at the chance to see it again at the Van Wezel.

Sidney’s shows are collections of novelty numbers interspersed with beautiful love songs and heartfelt moments from the theatre, such as Bock & Harnick’s HERE IN EDEN, the opening number to THE APPLE TREE that in Mr. Myer’s eccentric voice, with his subtle acting choices brought tears to the eyes of his house.

Bang on a Can announces its upcoming livestreams and on-demand programming, all streaming at live.bangonacan.org. All shows are free to watch, but viewers are encouraged to consider purchasing a ticket to help support the performers and commissioned composers.
