Review: BRIGADOON at Village Theatre
September 21, 2025 Musical theater productions serve different purposes: some embrace or challenge the cultural milieu, keeping audiences keenly aware of the context with which the musical exists, and others invite a full escape, an invitation into a completely different world. Village Theatre’s wholesome and romantic Brigadoon is meant to transport you completely, and the execution of its escapism is pristine.

Review: THE COLOR PURPLE at Village Theatre
Review: THE COLOR PURPLE at Village Theatre
June 01, 2025 Dear Readers, when discussing the musical of Alice Walker’s classic novel “The Color Purple”, you must acknowledge the production’s own journey from the tepidly received original 2005 Broadway production to the enthusiastically received 2015 Broadway revival which launched the career of the incredible Cynthia Erivo. We can discuss them in a bit but to start I will say that the current production at Village Theatre is certainly in the 2015 camp, with its streamlined production and roof shaking performances.
Review: JERSEY BOYS at Village Theatre
Review: JERSEY BOYS at Village Theatre
March 23, 2025 Countless musical groups have risen to fame, many becoming universally known household names. There are fewer groups whose music transcends time, genre evolution, and the classic dramatics. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons are among these precious few. Whether you immediately think of 'Walk Like a Man' or 'Can't Take My Eyes off of You,” the hums can be heard as soon as the name is uttered.

Review: LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL at Village Theatre
Review: LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL at Village Theatre
November 16, 2024 Dear Readers, if you know my reviews then you know how picky I can be, especially with shows I love. One such show is certainly “Legally Blonde: The Musical”, currently playing at Village Theatre. I managed to see the original cast down in San Francisco and it’s always held a special place in my heart. Plus, I just think it’s an outstanding show. So, while I think the current Village production has oodles going for it in regards to talent and general all-around fun, there were just a few tiny things that kept it from blowing me away, the big one being that ineffable spark. But we’ll get to that.

Review: CAMELOT at Village Theatre
September 14, 2024 I’m happy to say that what I witnessed last night is what I like to refer to as theatrical alchemy, when all the parts of a show, cast, set, direction, costumes, etc., all come together to form gold writes BWW critic.

Review: ONCE ON THIS ISLAND at Village Theatre
Review: ONCE ON THIS ISLAND at Village Theatre
May 18, 2024 Dear Readers, we’re about to enter the realm of one of my favorite shows, “Once on This Island”, currently playing at Village Theatre. This gem of a show is, sadly, not often produced. In fact, I’ve only seen it twice, once on Broadway in 2017, and once in 2005, again from Village Theatre. Both of those productions hold very special places in my memory as being stellar shows. I tell you this for one reason and one reason only, I am very picky when it comes to this show.
Review: THE FANTASTICKS at Village Theatre
Review: THE FANTASTICKS at Village Theatre
March 16, 2024 Pop quiz, Dear Readers. What is the world’s longest running musical? No, it’s not “Phantom”, that’s the longest running Broadway musical. But if we include Off-Broadway we get the longest run of 42 years and 17,162 performances with Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt’s “The Fantasticks”. And while the current production at Village Theatre dragged a bit at times, this enduring classic still has some fun to offer.
Review: BECOMING DR. RUTH At Village Theatre
Review: BECOMING DR. RUTH At Village Theatre
January 22, 2024 Village Theatre has welcomed a new show and a new Doctor to the stage this weekend. With a set that can’t leave your mind after stepping out of the Issaquah theater, and a leading lady who steals the show (good news, since she’s the only one in it), Becoming Dr. Ruth is a labor of love and arduous work by all those involved.
