The award winning Desert Aires Barbershop Chorus and Stomperz Dixieland Jazz Band perform a special benefit concert on Sunday, October 23rd at Theater Works. The concert, ERIN GO BROADWAY, features an exciting mix of Broadway tunes and Irish favorites with the barbershop quartets / chorus and band accompaniment.

Following the performance a wine and cheese reception will be held in the lobby so guests can enjoy the theater ambiance and mingle with the stars of the show. As an added attraction the all women, gold medal winning Sweet Adelines Quartet, The Mix will be performing. Join Theater Works Sunday, October 23 at 2:30 p.m. to spend an evening listening to barbershop quartets, sipping fine wine and relaxing with great friends. Tickets are only $15 / person and proceeds will go to Theater Works programming.

The Desert Aires Barbershop Chorus shares their love of four-part close-harmony a'cappella singing with audiences around the valley. Their fame extends to being the champions of "A" Plateau of Division Five of the Far West Districts of the international Barbershop Harmony Society. They are a championship chorus composed of 50+ members whose ages range from 63 - 88 years young with many having 20 - 60 years of experience for a collective total of 1200 +/- years.

The members of the Desert Aires Barbershop Chorus have some great history and stories with their years of barbershopping. Stuart Leck, who is legally blind, learns his music from a learning CD. From Minnesota, Stu tells about his early beginnings in barbershopping as a highschooler pulling typical high school stunts including his quartet dressing as females for a school fundraising event. Chorus Director, Jerry Roland started his singing career in church choirs, leading to his being a concert-choir soloist. Joe Salz has spent 62 years of his life barbershopping across the nation. In fact, he sang with the Desert Knights quartet at the grand opening of Sun City in 1960.

Tickets are now on sale both online at theaterworks.org and at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts. The Box Office is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily and may be reached at 623-815-7930. ERIN GO BROADWAY performs on October 23 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are only $15.00 (prices include service and processing fees) and includes a wine and cheese reception following the concert.
