Arizona Theatre Company Offers Free Community Engagement Activities In Conjunction With THE GLASS MENAGERIE

Arizona Theatre Company's third year of the AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories series will be held in conjunction with its production of Tennessee Williams' THE GLASS MENAGERIE. This season ATC will offer, in addition to a regularly scheduled series of post-performance discussions, and pre-performance talks, other free activities including a contest about "finding your voice" which will culminate in a graffiti/spoken word event, a reader's theatre experience, an acting workshop, and a glass blowing demonstration. All events are free and open to the public.

Arizona Theatre Company's production of THE GLASS MENAGERIE is sponsored in part by The Stonewall Foundation in Tucson and JP Morgan Chase in both Tucson and Phoenix.

Considered by many to be Tennessee Williams' greatest play, THE GLASS MENAGERIE, is an achingly beautiful story of longing and love that has touched generations of theatergoers with its delicate story of romantic dreams and shattered illusions. THE GLASS MENAGERIE plays at the Temple of Music and Art in downtown Tucson from February 27 through March 20, 2010 and at the Herberger Theater Center in downtown Phoenix from March 25 through April 11, 2010.

Now in its third year, AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories is a five-year initiative for Arizona Theatre Company. Each year, ATC will produce one classic American play dealing with aspects of the American experience, and will include plays that examine social, personal and political issues still relevant today. To encourage a diverse group of participants to add new voices to the conversation, ATC will offer free supplemental community activities tailored to each classic production.

"Finding Your Voice" Contest and Lobby Display

The characters in THE GLASS MENAGERIE are on journeys to "find their voices." ATC invites community members, students and patrons to submit stories on the theme of "finding your voice." The writings will become part of a lobby display and will be part of the Voice and Vision events in each city. The collected stories about "finding your voice" will burst forth during an event where ATC staff and volunteers will read them aloud as four talented artists paint a graffiti-art mural ignited by the stories they hear, as well as their own personal tales.
