Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) presents Spring Awakening!

Ateneo Blue Repertory (blueREP), the premier musical theater organization at Ateneo de Manila University, closes its 27th season with the Tony Award-winning musical 'Spring Awakening,' based on the play of the same name by Frank Wedekind, with book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik. The show runs until Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the Hyundai Hall Stage, Arete, Ateneo de Manila University (Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City).

Today we celebrate the breathtaking Deaf West revival of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's adolescent rock musical, Spring Awakening, which opened on Broadway on this day in 2015.

North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre (NRACT) is closing out their 2017-2018 season with the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening. NRACT Artistic Director Tim Locklear says although the show is controversial and for mature audiences only, due to the subject matter and brief nudity, Spring Awakening is as relevant as ever. Spring Awakening was also the subject of this season's NBC series Rise. 'For people who watched the TV show and didn't know about the musical, it breathes new life into the show,' says Locklear. 'But Spring Awakening is one of those shows that has a following, along with shows like Rent and Hair.' Today in 2006, Spring Awakening opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 859 performances. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the controversial German play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind which was banned in Germany for some time due to its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. Set in late-19th century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. In the musical, alternative rock is employed as part of the folk-infused rock score.The original Broadway production won 8 Tony Awards, including Tonys for Best Musical, Direction, Book, Score and Featured Actor. The production also garnered 4 Drama Desk Awards whilst its original cast album received a Grammy Award.
