SPRING AWAKENING cast member Alex Wyse has an exciting surprise for fans this evening.

Deaf West Theatre's acclaimed production of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's Spring Awakening will run through Sunday, January 24 only at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street). Spring Awakening is currently in previews and will open Sunday, September 27. A big msuical revival will arrive in just a week, marking the first time since Spring Awakening has played on Broadway since its original 2006 run. Today, BWW is continuing our SHOWTUNE SHUFFLE series by tributing both the new kids and the original cast with 'The Bitch of Living.'

Deaf West's acclaimed production of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's Spring Awakening, directed by Michael Arden and choreographed by Spencer Liff, just began rehearsals for its Broadway transfer and company member Sean Grandillo is vlogging about the experience. He writes: 'Here's another little peek into what's been going on with us in between the packed schedule of staging the show, rehearsing choreography, music, and ASL, and getting ready to bring our show to New York!'

Today in 2006, Spring Awakening opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 859 performances. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the controversial German play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind which was banned in Germany for some time due to its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. Set in late-19th century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. In the musical, alternative rock is employed as part of the folk-infused rock score.The original Broadway production won 8 Tony Awards, including Tonys for Best Musical, Direction, Book, Score and Featured Actor. The production also garnered 4 Drama Desk Awards whilst its original cast album received a Grammy Award.

The multiple Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of Spring Awakening, with book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik, is set to receive an innovative, immersive production performed simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English. Presented by Deaf West Theatre in association with The Forest of Arden, Spring Awakening opens tomorrow, September 13, at Inner-City Arts in downtown L.A. Atlantic Theater Company's ATC Uncovered is celebrating the 7th anniversary of SPRING AWAKENING on Broadway. The musical began at the Atlantic before transferring to Broadway, and stars Lea Michele, Jonathan Groff, John Gallagher, Jr., Lauren Pritchard, Lilli Cooper, Remy Zaken and more gathered at the theater on December 2nd to talk about thriving in an intimate space, performing a 'formative' project at such an important part of their lives, and what they want to collaborate on next.
