We also dropped by a rehearsal for Cameron Mackintosh's new production of the landmark musical Les Misérables, directed by John Caird. It starred Alexander Gemignani, Aaron Lazar, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gary Beach and Norm Lewis. Mackintosh told Ridge, 'I'm delighted to have the opportunity. The only thing I never expected or dreamt of was getting such a wonderful cast as this. Everybody we ever dreamt of wanted to be in it. We found some marvelously talented people that we didn't know, and I think it's one of the strongest casts of Les Miz that's ever been anywhere.'

With Stephen Sondheim celebrating his 90th birthday, this episode of Broadway Rewind is very special for BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge because it us to the opening night of the Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman tuner Road Show at The Public Theater. It was directed and designed by John Doyle and starred Michael Cerveris and Alexander Gemignani. Cerveris told Ridge about this new version of the material,  'I saw Bounce in Washington so that was my first exposure to the material, but this really isn't a reexamination of that source material, it's an entirely new musical. So, when I saw the new draft that Stephen and John had done, it was really exciting.'

'It was 1981, we were stoned out of our mind...' said Sondheim. For the first time, instead of being presented backward, the show will be re-worked to be staged in chronological order. Check out the video below for more information!

The company of Carousel had reason to celebrate this week, as the show picked up eleven Tony nominations. One of them went to the outstanding choreography of Justin Peck, who makes his Broadway debut with this piece. Watch as the company brings his vision to life on the Imperial stage below!

Justin Peck is a '21-century sensation' when it comes to the dance world. His most recent project was choreographing the current revival of Carousel on Broadway. Broadway was busting out all over last night at the Imperial Theatre! That's because Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic musical Carousel, under the direction of three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien and choreography by Justin Peck, opened officially, bringing the beloved show back to Broadway for the first time in over 20 years.
