Harrisburg's seasonal favorite returns in a dazzling reimagined production this holiday season. Open Stage's 22nd annual production of Charles Dickens' classic story follows Ebenezar Scrooge, the miserly owner of the local counting house. On Christmas Eve, he is taken on a journey with three ghostly spirits that strive to save him from damnation and instill love, hope and understanding in humanity. 

Open Stage, one of Harrisburg’s non-profit theatre companies, has hired three new team members. These additions to the team come just a few months after the downtown theatre company began to once again produce in-person shows for its 36th season.

In 2010, Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour brought a brand new type of theatre to life. In White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, the actor receives a sealed envelope and a set of instructions before embarking on a 70-minute journey with nothing but the author's voice as their guide.

While the show tackles the very serious topics of mental health, depression, and suicide, it is a show filled with humor, joy, and hope. Every Brilliant Thing tells the story of one man's journey from childhood to adulthood and his desire to document “every brilliant thing” in the form of a paper list. Tackling issues of mental health, familial relationships, and suicide, Every Brilliant Thing urges its audiences to face difficult conversations head on.

Open Stage opens their 36th season “Breaking Through” with Carole King’s Tapestry Live. Performers Rachel Landon, Carly Lafferty, and Stacey Werner, with director Stuart Landon and music director Nicholas Werner, take on the songs of Tapestry in a nostalgic, high-energy, emotional show that will have audiences feeling the earth move under their feet.

After a year of virtual productions, Open Stage will once again invite live audiences into the theatre. The first production is Over the Rainbow: The Songs of Judy Garland. Beginning May 28, this cabaret features Rachel Landon, Stacey Werner, and Carly Lafferty under the music direction of Nicholas Werner.

In October, 2019, Open Stage reopened the facility at 25 North Court Street after a half-million dollar renovation, featuring a brand new black box Studio Theater, a modern lobby and bar ( dubbed The Court Street Cabaret), and made a slew of other updates, kicking off a year of performances that looked to be one of the small professional house's strongest seasons ever.

Open Stage has announced the theater's re-opening in late May with a series of concerts, beginning with a Judy Garland celebration dubbed Over the Rainbow: the Songs of Judy Garland, running May 28-June 25.

Poirot Investigates!, based on the short story “The Adventure of the Western Star” by famed mystery writer Agatha Christie, will be streaming through the “Open Stage at Home” program November 6-22.  The show will feature Christie's most famous creation: the eccentric and tidy Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.

Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, has inspired numerous TV, film, and stage adaptations. Frankenstein, as it's commonly known, explores a number of intriguing questions.

Open Stage presents the 2020-2021 season with completely free access to all virtual shows.

Open Stage continues to produce live content, and will present streaming access to Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare's An Iliad.

Open Stage, a regional theatre in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, will be hosting a live-stream presentation of their upcoming production of Angels in America. 

The musical Amélie, first produced in 2015, is based on the 2001 film of the same name. The musical, by Daniel Messé, Nathan Tysen, and Craig Lucas, is charming and whimsical. It tells the tale of a French waitress, Amélie Poulain, who, inspired by Princess Diana's death and her own imagination, decides to make it her mission to help others. This contemporary fairytale can be enjoyed at Open Stage of Harrisburg under the direction of Stuart Landon February 1-March 8. At Open Stage, audiences will meet an unique cast of characters in an intimate setting. Gabriella DeCarli tackles the title role of Amélie Poulain in this production, and she took a few moments to share her experience with this extraordinary musical.
