The Group Rep pulls the curtain back on UNHIDDEN FIGURES a virtual play festival of new short plays celebrating African-American women from all walks of life.

Theatre would not be theatre without the efforts of Black artists, and it’s important to learn about their impact on the industry. In honor of Black History Month, here is a timeline of theatre milestones achieved by Black professionals. 

Teatro Paraguas  presents Manhattan Glass, by Santa Fe playwright Joey Chavez,  on the Santa Fe-based virtual platform XERB.tv.  The performance was recorded in April 2011 at Teatro Paraguas in Santa Fe. Viewings are free, and donations are gratefully accepted.

Juanita Hall was an American musical theatre and film actress. 1950, Hall became the first Black actor to win a Tony Award, for her portrayal of Bloody Mary in the original Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific.

Winners have been announced for the 2020 BroadwayWorld Portland Awards - which were back bigger than ever, celebrating the best in local theatre of the past decade! 

Juanita Stein has released the video for her new single, 'Reckoning,' taken from her brilliant new album, Snapshot (out now via Nude Records).

Prospect Theater Company has announced the final two release dates for their inaugural Fall 2020 VISION Series of original music-theater on film. Brain. Storm. will premiere on Wednesday, December 16th at 7pm, the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birthday.

The film was written by Madison Turner, a former stuntman-turned-action screenwriter. He previously set up his Blacklist script The Liberators at Warner Bros. with Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society and Safehouse Pictures attached. He is currently rewriting an adaptation of Ed Brubaker's Kill or Be Killed for Thunder Road (John Wick, Sicario).

A boisterous, topical and entertaining year of theatre is on offer for South Australians in the 2021 season from State Theatre Company South Australia.
