It is now a rather incredible twenty five years since Ridley Scott's Gladiator came to our cinema screens, making a star of Russell Crowe and cementing the soundtrack's reputation as one of most captivating of its time. As such, it seems fitting that the Royal Albert Hall has included it in its wonderful Films in Concert series and what a treat it is to hear that remarkable soundtrack live.

Western swing may be my new favorite genre of music thanks to Reynolds Performance Hall on the University of Central Arkansas campus in Conway, who brings a lot of variety to their patrons.  On March 1, we were treated to the swinging sounds of HOT CLUB OF COWTOWN, along with the handsome TYLER HILTON, who took the stage for an unforgettable night of music that blended vintage charm with modern flair. We couldn’t stop tapping our feet the whole night.

You have to hand it to Musical Theatre Southwest – most community theaters play it safe, filling their calendar with Mamma Mia, Shrek and at least one production from the Golden Age of Musicals (Rogers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Lowe, etc.); MTS continues to dip their toes deeper into the repertoire with shows such as Next To Normal and Carrie: The Musical. Playwright Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party falls into this category. See it now through October 19.

The soundtrack has been released for the new film Joker: Folie à Deux, featuring vocals from Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. The movie features musical sequences reminiscent of classic MGM musicals, with songs such as 'Bewitched,' If My Friends Could See Me Now,' 'That's Life,' 'That's Entertainment,' 'Get Happy,' and more.

Lady Gaga has released her new album Harlequin, a companion to Joker: Folie à Deux. Gaga plays Joker's confidant Lee Quinzel in the sequel, who is also known as Harley Quinn. The LP incorporates music from the film, which features musical sequences reminiscent of classic MGM musicals.
