Broadway Method Academy (BMA), the resident conservatory of Westport Country Playhouse, opens its production of “Disney's Newsies” tonight at the Playhouse. A host of Broadway actors will be featured in the cast alongside the Academy's 40 students.

The Ziegfeld Theater will present Disney's Newsies done entirely in both American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English. The show features several deaf actors with shadow actors performing their vocals.

Arena Stage, accompanied by some of the cast from Disney's Newsies, as well as the Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig, volunteered at the USO (United Service Organization).

Despite being set in 1899, NEWSIES feels marvelously modern. It is sharp, slick, and explosive. Even if, like me, you saw the bright new production of NEWSIES on Broadway in 2012, the Arena Stage setting is instantly memorable. Being emerged in the theater-in-the-round is like the difference between seeing a beloved film on the big screen and walking into the middle of the action in the Disney theme parks.

The Tony Award-winning musical, Disney's Newsies, will receive an additional six performances during its run at Arena Stage. Under the direction of Molly Smith, choreography by Parker Esse and music direction by Laura Bergquist, the production now runs through December 29, 2019 in the iconic in-the-round Fichandler Stage.

Broadway Training Center of Westchester (BTC), one of the region's premier performing arts schools, will present Disney's “NEWSIES” November 22 through November 24 at the Irvington Theater (formerly Irvington Town Hall Theater) in Irvington, N.Y. The show will feature BTC's award-winning junior and senior ensembles consisting of students (grades 4-12) from throughout Westchester and Rockland counties and the Bronx.
