The Public Theater kicked off another Shakespeare for the City season and Free Shakespeare in the Park at its 2026 Gala. Grammy Award winner and 2026 Tony winner Shoshana Bean headlined the special night, hosted at The Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

xIn the city where Houdini once extricated himself from a straitjacket while dangling upside down above Times Square, it’s surprising that we don’t get major magic acts on stage more often than we do in New York. This relative paucity is thrown into relief when magic, illusion, escape and the like actually do take up residence on New York stages, as is the case right now with Lord Nil extricating himself from threat of the Seven Deadly Sins at Stage 42 while just eight blocks uptown Jamie Allan is conjuring motorcycles and reams of playing cards at New World Stages with his show Amaze.

In his newest comedy special, Neal Brennan moves physical blocks around the stage in order to explain the emotional and cultural issues that make him feel like something's wrong with him. Everything’s Fine, a world premiere autobiographical one-man play written and performed by Academy Award-nominated writer, actor and director Douglas McGrath, and directed by two-time Tony Award and six-time Emmy Award winner John Lithgow, will open Thursday, October 13, 2022 for a limited engagement at the DR2 Theatre.

Derek DelGaudio's Hulu special In & Of Itself will run from May 28 to June 3 at the IFC Center in New York. In & Of Itself is a modern allegory, exploring new ways of seeing the unseeable, as memories from yesterday, inexplicable events witnessed today and secrets imagined for tomorrow are blended together, creating a perpetual paradox of a show.

The virtual play Missed Connections starring Jon Tai has recouped its capitalization Off Broadway after one week of performances. The live, interactive play with magic, conceived for an intimate virtual experience, continues at Off Broadway’s 59e59 Theaters through May 20 as part of 59e59’s Plays in Space Series. 

Magician Steve Cohen has announced that Chamber Magic will resume performances on Friday, June 4, 2021. Performed weekly in an elegant salon at the legendary Lotte New York Palace hotel, the acclaimed Chamber Magic celebrated its 20th anniversary in early 2020.

Off-Broadway's 59e59 Theaters, Chicago's A Red Orchid Theatre, Kansas City's Oddly Correct Coffee and Wesley Stace's Cabinet of Wonders will join forces to co-present a virtual Off-Broadway transfer for Missed Connections, following its recent Chicago premiere presentation. 

WME has signed Derek DelGaudio. DelGaudio is best known for his one-man Off-Broadway show, In & Of Itself, which ran for 72 weeks with over 560 performances, grossing around $7 million.
