The Mermaid Parade is a unique and artistic celebration of ancient mythology and a honky-tonk seaside ritual that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the amusement district.

Theatre at St. Clement’s to present a one night only staged reading of Zaglada, a new play by Richard Vetere, directed by Dan Wackerman at Theatre at St. Clement’s on Monday, January 23 at 7pm. Admission is free.

Second Stage Theater has announced casting for the Broadway debut production of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play, BETWEEN RIVERSIDE AND CRAZY, directed by Austin Pendleton. The production will star Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colon and more.

The all-star voice cast features Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-O) as David, Katie Chang (The Bling Ring) as Maddie, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as Caspian, Rosemarie DeWitt (Little Fires Everywhere) as Ellen, Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) as Cary, Anika Noni Rose, Maude Apatow, Krystina Alabado, and more. Eric Krebs & THEATER555 will present a staged reading of Last Day by Richard Vetere. Inspired by the William Butler Yeats quote, 'The beautiful and innocent have no enemy but time.' Last Day is a vigorous exploration of love & friendship at the end of the 20th Century.

Actress Annabella Sciorra (“Blue Bloods”) has been cast as the lead in Fresh Kills, the upcoming feature film starring, written, and directed by Jennifer Esposito. Fresh Kills is a gripping drama that tells the story of the loyal women of an organized crime family that dominated some of the boroughs of New York City in the late 20th century.

Sciorra plays the episode’s titular “blacklister,” “the avenging angel,” a character who will use any means necessary to return what has been unjustly stolen. The show also stars stars James Spader, Amir Arison, and Hisham Tawfiq. Check out exclusive new photos of Sciorra in the episode now!

eabody Award-winning composer, Matthew Puckett, announced today the upcoming release of two demos, “Faster” and  “What Love Looks Like,” from his  new musical Rebel Genius, about the early life of Albert Einstein, featuring Broadway stalwarts Corey Cott (Newsies, Bandstand) and Hannah Elless (Bright Star, Godspell).

The parade kicks off at 1pm (rain or shine) on West 21st and Surf Avenue and proceeds on Surf Avenue to West 10th, then heads south to the Boardwalk and then west back to its ending point at Steeplechase Plaza on the Boardwalk.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Zoe Caldwell, four-time Tony Award-winning Broadway actress, died peacefully at the age of 86 at her home in Pound Ridge, New York, on Sunday, February 16, 2020. The cause of death was complications due to Parkinson's disease, according to her son, Charlie Whitehead. Today, we remember Caldwell with a look back at photos from our archives.

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported yesterday, stage star Phyllis Newman passed away yesterday, September 15, at the age of 86. Newman got her start in show business at 4 years old imitating Carmen Miranda in theatres and clubs. Her portrayal of Martha Vail in the Jule Styne/Comden and Green musical Subways Are For Sleeping - costumed only in a bath towel - earned her a Tony Award. Her other Broadway credits include Bells Are Ringing, The Apple Tree, On the Town, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Awake and Sing, Wish You Were Here, First Impressions, and her one-woman musical The Madwoman of Central Park West, which she co-authored with Arthur Laurents. She garnered a Tony Award nomination for her highly-acclaimed performance in Neil Simon's Broadway Bound.
