What did our critic think of HADESTOWN at Providence Performing Art Center?

Grammy Award winner Allison Russell will reprise her role as Persephone in Hadestown on Broadway. Hadestown currently stars Morgan Dudley as Eurydice, Kurt Elling as Hermes, Rebecca Naomi Jones as Persephone, and more.

This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories—that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and that of immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone—Hadestown invites audiences on a journey to the underworld and back.

HITS Theatre has received a generous $10,000 grant from the H-E-B Tournament of Champions. This grant will provide vital scholarship funding and allow them to continue their mission of offering tuition-free programming.

Directed by Jeremy Clay, the Bryant High School Thespian Troupe took on an ambitious challenge with their production of Hadestown: Teen Edition, presented November 14-17, and the result was nothing short of extraordinary. With a story as layered and emotionally rich as this Tony Award-winning musical, with Music, Lyrics, and Book by Anais Mitchell, the students poured their hearts into every moment, creating a show that was as visually stunning as it was emotionally resonant.  

HADESTOWN – LIVE FROM LONDON, the original West End cast album for Tony and Grammy Award-winning ‘Best Musical' Hadestown, recorded live at the Lyric Theatre in London, will be released on December.

Like its hero, the bold Orpheus, 'Hadestown' made its international premiere in Seoul amid the persistent threats of COVID-19 in 2021. It ran for six months in the capital city, with additional performances in Daegu and Busan in 2022, which clocked in a total of 233 performances.
