Cast Announced for TICK, TICK…BOOM! at BoHo Theatre

BoHo Theatre will close out its 2022/2023 season with TICK, TICK…BOOM!, with music, lyrics, and book by the late Jonathan Larson, and directed by Bo Frazier. This production marks the company’s first musical since BIG FISH in 2019.

BWW Review: TICK, TICK... BOOM! Drags, But Is Effective

Written by Jonathan Larson, the theater composer and lyricist made infamous with RENT, the film adaptation of TICK, TICK… BOOM! is sure to garner a lot of attention. The stage version is a rollicking, urgent three-person chamber musical that flies by in a tight 90 minutes. The film is expanded to 115 minutes and suffers a bit under the weight of that bloat. The emotional peaks and valleys all work, but there are moments where the plot drags.

The American Theatre Wing just recognized the recipients of the 2015 Jonathan Larson Grants: writing team Tim Rosser (composer) & Charlie Sohne (composer) receiving $10,000,Sam Willmott (composer/lyricist) receiving $10,000 and a week-long residency at the Running Deer Musical Theatre Lab, and Max Vernon (composer/lyricist) receiving $10,000. This year's recipients were selected by an expert panel consisting of Amanda Green (Hands on a Hardbody), Steven Lutvak (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), and Ted Chapin (President and Executive Director of Rodgers & Hammerstein). Soluna Studio to Present TICK…TICK…BOOM!

SoLuna Studio will produce the musical TICK…TICK…BOOM! as a part their professional mainstage season, with performances running February 20th-March 8th. Performances will be held on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets purchased in advance are $15 for students and seniors and $20 for adults. At the door, tickets for students and seniors are $20 each and $25 for adults. Group rates are also available. Theatre Out, Orange County's gay and lesbian theatre, presents Jonathan Larson's autobiographical musical TICK, TICK...BOOM!. Recalling the life of composer Jonathan Larson in the years leading up to the creation of RENT, TICK, TICK...BOOM! is a deeply personal look at the courage required to follow your dreams through life's most difficult challenges. The show will play its final performance on February 20.
